My injector pump is leaking

OK, I haven't even searched yet but figured I'd throw up a thread. While outside working on my plow, I tried to get my truck started, wouldn't cooperate so I had to plug it in and plug the block heater in too. Finally fired up, and I decided to turn my idle down, it's been high since I turned my full fuel screw in one turn. I was messing w/ the linkages and saw the other lever below the throttle linkage. I pulled it and the truck died. Started it back up, finished turning the idle down(need to lengthen rod) and noticed fuel dripping from the injector pump right around where the throttle shaft goes through it. Is there a part that unbolts w/ a gasket there? This is a pretty good leak, and it leaks more after you rev it. Thanks
 
The throttle shaft gets worn over time and miles, can develop a groove on it. To fix it right you'll need a new throttle shaft and bushing. Throttle shaft runs about $50, not sure on the bushing. You'll have the pump top off for this repair, so get yourself a 3200 gov spring while you're at it ~$15. I think the throttle shaft bushing is in the VE gasket/seal kit ~$ 18.



I've not actually done the repair. But I'm sure once you get the pump top off, if will be obvious. You'll have to drive out the old bushing I believe. Greenleaf can fill you in more.

Mine started leaking a few weeks ago and I pulled off the top of the pump and replaced the oring on the throttle shaft, the old one was hardened from age. It stopped the leak just fine.
 
My truck only has 82K on it, but sits a lot so I bet it's just the O ring. Of course this has to happen when there's snow on the ground and I have a garage full of cars w/o motors! I'm going to take the tps off today so I can get a better look at it...
 
Do yourself a favor and while you are ordering the oring, order the 3200 RPM governor spring and put it in while you have the top off the pump. I didn't and now I have to reopen the pump to install the spring.

Yea yea, I know but I was not going to do the install until after Christmas but when it started pouring fuel all over the floor :eek: I had to go ahead and put the oring in so now I just have to do double the labor, but then again if I couldn't tinker with my truck what else would I do for enjoyment. So I will take the smack :{ and stand in a corner but only until my parts get here. I think they are coming by courrier snail as I ordered them two weeks ago. :confused:
 
I called Piers for parts and they said $140 to re bush the pump shaft? Can this be done at home? I have pullers/press/etc? It's warming up and I have to get this thing back on the road.
 
Yes. It can be done "@ home" I have performed said operation many times over. It's not tough at all.



You need;



Bushing D1 460 324 332

Throttle Shaft 1 463 161 849

Pump Gasket Kit DGK 121



Clean the pump and the area surrounding... ... . WELL!!!



Remove pump top.



Warm the ara surrounding the bushing with a small heat gun of sorts. Make it warm, NOT HOT!!



Immediately drive the bushing from the body. It will drive from the outside in.



Freeze the new bushing well. Git her really cold.



Clean the ID of the pump body with something... ... ... then warm the body. NOT HOT!!



I have, at this point, installed some high temp silicone to the ID of the body.



Then, VERY QUICKLY, pull the new bushing from the deep freeze and insert it into the pump body (from the inside of course). I set the pump top into a deep well soccet to allow the area surrounding the bushing to be supported while I knock the new bush into place.



Make for certain the bottom of the new bush is tight against the underside of the body. The bushing has a very small flange at it's base that will set against the body when fully installed.



The rest is reverse order... .
