Well I've been driving around for a few weeks now with a "spare" LP and a Geno's relocate kit in the back seat of the truck.
I was heading home friday night and stoped for fuel, went to start up the truck and it ran for a few seconds and shut down... . started it again and it did the same thing... .
That sinking feeling in my stomach was coming on strong, turned the key and no LP running. Bumped the starter no LP running :{ . One more try and she fires up... Good deal few miles from home, will baby it back and fix it there.
Got about a mile and it was running rough, I stoped and it shut down again... . Well no better spot then right here to R&R the LP. .
Get the spare out of the back seat with the Geno's kit go to grab my tool bag
,thats right I left it sitting in the garage when I was picking through it the other day... . Ok theres a hardware story just about 1/2mile away, start walking.
Buy a couple cheap wrench's,small tube cutter, screw driver and thank God for this one Vise Grip pliers... ... ...
Walk back to the truck start to remove the old LP and install the new fittings and run the fuel line and wire extension to the rear of the truck. At this time the old LP is unbolted but just kinda sitting in the factory location, some but not alot of fuel has dripped out but it's up kinda high and not really flowing out,I'm in the dirt and a little spill was the least of my cares.....
Move to the back, laying in the dirt. I bolt up my spare LP to the re-loc bracket and attach the fuel line from the front of the truck to it.
I attached the little piece of fuel line to the LP so when I cut the metal factory tube it will be a 2 second diesel shower and I could just connect the new line to the factory hard line coming out of the tank... or so my plan was :-laf
Get out my new cheap mini tube cutter, mind you I have a very nice "name brand" one in my tool bag, sitting in my garage. OK kit instuctions say to cut the factory hard line 6" from the tank, easy as pie. I start to tighten the cutting wheel and turn at the same time, same drill over and over... ..... Damm this is taking a long time to cut, stop and check my progress, theres a small grove on the fuel line. So back at it I go, a few more twist's on the line and fuel is starting to drip out.
OK here we go, I twist the blade down one more time and start to cut again and the fuel is coming out pretty good now SNAP O F***!!! The tube cutter breaks in half and fuel is really coming out now and the line is only half cut
I'm yanking on the fuel line trying to get the rest of it to just break off at the cut,the tube cutter didnt cut all the way through the side next to the frame (yes I was doing full circles with the cutter)theres not enough room to get it to snap. Fuel is ******* out now, I'm soaked from my head to boots in Diesel fuel and Diesel mud... .
I remember that I bought VISE GRIPS, I swim out from under the truck and run to the tailgate and get the only none cheap tool I just bought. I dive back under the truck at this point I'm dripping wet from fuel so I can barley get a grip on the pliers.
I clamp the hell out of the factory fuel line and get the fuel so slow to a crawl, with a pair of side cutters I get the rest of the line cut and put the new fuel line over the smashed up line and stop the fuel leak.....
Walk back to the hardware store covered in mud/diesel and buy two more cheap mini tube cutters(just n case)... get back to the truck, start to cut a few inches further down the line and make it through this time, connect the new line...
Made sure everything was tight, bled the air out and fired it up. I got undressed and put on a new T-shirt,toss all my diesel soaked clothes in the bed ,wrapped a towel around my waist for the ride home and just started to laugh...
Just wanted to share my Friday night with ya all...
