I HAVE A 97 3500 DULLEY WITH 140,000 ON THE MOTOR I BOUGHT IT WITH A CRACKED RING IN THE MOTOR

THE TRUCK RUNS OK BUT HAS BLOW BY.

I WAS THINKIN OF PUTTIN A NEW SHORT BLOCK IN

FROM CUMMINS WEST IF THEY HAVE A SHORT BLOCK OR DOIN A NEW MOTOR FROM CUMMINS. THERE PRICEY

OR SHOULD I DO A MOTOR FROM ATK.



IF U KNOW OF A GOOD COMPANY OR WHO I SHOULD GET A MOTOR OR SHORT BLOCK FROM PLEASE LET ME KNOW

OR WOULD I BE BEETER IN THE LONG RUN PUTTIN A REBUILT CUMMINS MOTOR IN THERE WITH THERE WARENTY FROM FACTORY.



AND WHEN I DO THIS WHAT IS A GOOD OIL A FILTER TO USE ON MY DIESEL IAM NEW TO DODGE DIESELS AND WANT TO DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME

A new or rebuilt motor is kinda like a 30-06 for field mice IMO, way overkill.



Re-ring the problem cylinder and run it for another hundred thousand miles, then think about what to do with it. You can do new bearings all the way through too while you have it apart and still save THOUSANDS of dollars over a new/rebuild, and have a good solid engine. You won't be able to tell it is not a new block or a rebuild at that point.

I am a mechanic myself, so I would certainly at least get inside the motor to see if it is rebuildable and rebuild if possible.



Another option would be a good used motor. I have been digging through the classified adds on the site looking for an injection pump. There are plenty of motors for sale.

My vote would be to do the cylinder and run it, if you don't want to mess with it I would be calling Piers, I do know he has a bunch of motors.

Definitly have the engine checked out before making a expensive decision if the cylinder is messed up I think you can have it dry sleeved, probably way cheeper than other options. If it is 1 cylinder fix that cylinder and KEEP TRUCKIN .
