Who's going to SEMA?

Happy Birthday Massdiesel

I didnt like the new Sony DSC R1 mainly because of the fragile flip up view and the lack of laser assisted auto focus (night). So I bought a DSC-F828 with a 1 GB memory card.

Anyone else have one?

Canon S-50 pea-shooter here. Works great and don't need the laser thingie 'cause I'm always in bed (alseep) by dark. :-laf

I have one, it does need some time to learn how to use it. Then if you don't use all the features, you forget how.

Nice cam ... can ya take a pic of it?? :-laf

No really it has great low lux ability that does not yellow things out as bad as some of the other brands. The Speed burst is one of the coolest features I have ever got to use as it truly does click off some mental amouts of pics for that special moment. I have allways been a zeiss fan and all my sony's have treated me very very well! Yours is to me anyhow a flagship compared to my other two.

I bought a DSC-F707 when they first came out, and it's been a great camera. I really like the swivel body as it allows you to get those overhead and low shots that are difficult otherwise.

The 828 looks amazing! The speed burst feature alone is enough reason to upgrade. Hmmm... time to drop some hints for Santa... ;)

You better hurry, Sony has dropped the 828 in favor of the R1 which has a flimsy flip up LCD and no laser assisted night focus. We had to look around to find the 828. No one is discounting the price on the 828 either, I think demand went up sice the R1 replaced it.

I have a powershot Pro1. Good 8mp camera in the prosumer range like the DSC-828. They both use the same 8mp photocell, and both have the same tendency for purple anomalies. See the tests at www.dpreview.com

I got the Canon as a stopgap model because I wanted something that would satisfy my capabilities will still letting the wife operate it easily. I'm hoping to get a digital SLR down the road, as prices come down.

My ONLY complaint: it's SLOOOOOOOOW. Too slow. The metering and focus just take too long. The shot is gone by the time the camera is ready. This only seems to be a problem because I shoot indoors so much. In bright light conditions, it's not an issue. The camera is easily 3 times faster in brighter light. I like the Canon a lot, overall, and if you discount the speed aspect, it's WONDERFUL. But I'm not buying a bunch of accessories for it, because I don't want to "marry" Canon.

When I go SLR, it will probably be Nikon.
