Well i have learned alot about our trucks since i have become a member. I am now really thinking about trading in my truck on a 2001 qc 4x4 6spd HO sport short bed. It has everything but leather. I was wondering about my TST PM 3. Will i need a different connector for the map sensor or will it work now. I was also wondering about the southbend clutch? I think i remember people telling me that there is a kit for the 6spd and its much less money than the 5spd. Please let me know. I need to get all my goodies in order before i sign the papers. If i do go that way. Thanks guys. . Mike

Mike, the TST will need a new map plug, just ship it back to TST and they will make the change for you.

I'll let Peter respond to the clutch issue as I am unsure what changes can/will be needed.

I'd keep what you have....

If I were you (I have a '99 also), I'd keep what you have.

If you trade, you will LOSE money, for sure.

Secondly, you will need to buy another clutch for the 6 speed, since it won't hold the TST, and the clutch for the 6 speed has a different sized input shaft than the 5 speed does.

Given that it is known that the ETC's EGT's run cooler with BOMB's, why mess with success?

I had the option to trade my '99 in for an '01 but decided against it for a multitude of reasons.

One being that it's hard to justify buying an engine with such huge longeivty and then get rid of it within 2 years.

Your call ultimately, but I had the chance, and after evaluating the implications, it wasn't worth it at all.

Don't Trade

Mike,

Here is how I looked at it when I was in your shoes, it was going to cost me around 8 grand to upgrade to a similarly HO to my truck. I thought if I spent that 8 grand on my truck, which one would I be happier with. To me the answer was obvious. My truck runs cooler like Shawn said and I only have 2 grand in my upgrades. Plenty of money left for that 6-speed conversion. Unless you were updating to a different box length or 2500 to 3500, I would keep your 99.

Just my opinion,

Eric

well this is the story. My 99 has 45,000 on it. My payments are 100$ more on my 99 than on the new 2001. I havent gotten a clutch yet, so in ok there. All my toys will fit the new one. i know i would be starting over with another 5 years, but at 3. 9 % i think it might be worth it. Any more thoughts?

I just cant choose. I can make points for each argument. Keep it or trade it? I need some help from anyone thats been there

You've got alot of goodies on your existing truck. Factor in the cost to replace the other items, not power stuff. Financially it probably isn't the right move, but you're the one that drives it everyday. Is it worth it to get the 6 speed? If they are giving you a decent trade-in price on your 99, they're getting their money somewhere.

Tough call.
