Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) My new toy...

i just purchased an HTT SP66/14 from a guy off of the classifieds, and installed it the other day. man, this turbo is nice! it spools a little faster than my old hx40, and man will it move some air! i did pull two trailers with it, a 32' fifth wheel and a 24' lowboy with a 3rd gen camaro on it. egts werent bad, but it did surge every once in a while. i am over all really happy with this turbo!

Wow, faster than an HX40? What size exhaust housing was on the 40? It's amazing how such a bigger turbo can spool up faster.



What gears and tire size are you running? How are your EGTs? empty or loaded

both the 40 and the 66 have 14 exhaust housings. the 66 spools just a little faster than the 40, not a whole lot though. i was supprised at how fast it did spool, compared to what all i had heard about these things. im running 235/85s and 3. 55s. the egts post turbo when pulling got up to about 1050 degrees and cruising were at about 800 degrees. and thats with a 32' fifth wheel. just normal driving, they range from 600 to 800 degrees, depending on where my foot is at!

any heat issues? Ive talked to a few people and a 66 seems to be a hot charger for towing.

well, it did get warmer than the hx40 did, but i kinda figured it would. overall, im really happy with it!
