well guys i switched sides. i bought a 02 etc auto and put all of my stuff on it. i wanted to go with a auto so i can drag race, and sled pull with it this year. bd gave me one of there race transmission's to try and break. :D all i can say is this truck is so much fun to drive. with the b-1 bomber and this new transmission this truck is very quick. there is nothing like 20psi 4wd launches.

i put all of my stuff on my new truck and hooked the trailer with a buddies truck on it and headed for canada. my gcvw was 22k. when i left my house my truck had 2k miles on it. i never let the boost go over 25psi and when i pulled into bd my transmission was toast. i then went to dyno days on sat and made 634 rwhp and then towed the same trailer home. this time i was running 45psi of boost up some of the hills and i had the convertor locked and it seemed to be more than happy.

so far i am mad at myself for ever buying a stick, but at least i came around.

:{Oh no, you were the man, our ETH golden boy. the man putting down the monster HP numbers with one of those "gutless H. O. motors" Dang. Allright, who's gonna step in as king of the ETH's now.

Seriously, sometimes i wish i had the auto, sure would make drag racing more fun... Sucks to get stomped in the traffic light wars when you know you have a lot more HP than the other guy. Hey at least the new truck is the right color and style (see sig).

One question, you made 717 Hp with the old ETH and 634 with the new ETC. Does this lay to rest the argument about the ETC being more "bombable" or are you hiding something for the next dyno wars;) inquiring minds wanna know:D

rubberneck,

The first thing that's different was the different dynos. His 717 was done at around 4500ft elevation and the dyno had a 13% correction factor. This 634 was done here at sea level with no correction factor, which I believe makes a difference on diesel engine results. We'll have to see what it says when he goes back to that same dyno in Idaho. Also the new one isn't even broken-in yet.

Believe me, Jim's new truck is an awesome ride to do a 20psi 4wheel drive launch in!!!:--)

So basically you are saying, you are about to start kicking a$$ and taking names. :D sweet.

Cuminntstrkn,

Congratulations, that's a nice looking truck! This is a little off topic, but I'm curious... your truck appears to have the sport grill, bumper, etc. but from the picture, it looks like you have the "non-sport" type RAM 2500 badges on the sides. All sport's I've seen have decals in lieu of badges. What's the scoop?

redram1, my truck was exactly as cumminstrkn's I ordered it with the sport package, and it came with emblems, not stickers as some of the older trucks. it also had a small badge behind the quad door that said sport instead of the usual SLT. Now however, those are all history (i like the clean shaven look):D

Rubberneck,

Guess Cumminnstrkn's truck is the first '02 sport I've seen. I'm sure I would have noticed the badges instead of stickers. I kind of wanted a white sport, but was overrulled by the wife and kids. They wanted red, and the red sports just looked too dam red too me! I tried to visualize a red sport without the stickers, but in the end just went the non-sport route.

Have any of you '02 guys noticed any differences other than the badging changes from the '01. 5's?

The Sports with the regular chrome door badges have been around since the 2001. 5 trucks. From what I saw on the dealer lots, on the 2001. 5's when Dodge started putting the black-plastic rectagular 'Sport' badge on the B pillar of the cab, that was the same time they started using the regular chrome door badges too. This was also about the same time the rear camper package springs went from a 2-leaf to a 1-leaf.

MikeR,

I didn't know the sport's with the chrome badges had been around that long. I don't think the badging change occurred at exactly the same time as the other '01. 5 changes though.

I saw a guy with a black sport at the fuel island a couple months ago, naturally, we started talking trucks. His truck was a black sport shortbed auto, it had the decals and disc brakes.

one of the NW BEST!

For those of you have yet to meet Jim , He is a very nice guy and one hell of a competitor;)

Every time I've see Jim its been a pleasure :)

i have one of bd's racing transmission's in my truck and it has at least 100 20-25psi 4wd launches under it's belt, with no problems. there is nothing like coming out of the hole at 20psi in 4wd. :D next time i'm in salt lake i'll take you for a spin.

bob

thanks for the kind words. it is always great to see you at these events. i guess i'll see you in april.

Ordered mine 1/4/01, received 4/16/01, it is an 01. 5 with discs, and had the badges. My truck still has the underhood insulation, the ram sewn in the front seats, and the back seat cupholders. however, the vanity mirrors do not have lights. I was surprised when i got the truck that it had badges, i had never seen it before on a sport. I was kind of bummed cause the stickers are so easy to get off, took me a little elbow grease to get off the emblems. As far as the red sport model with no emblems looking just too red. Yup, that's the way i like it. Oo.
