Its snowing out. The traffic is atrocious and crawling. I have the hubs locked (I hate auto lock hub - but that's cause I use them *off road*) but in 2WD (its not that bad out). I come to a short steep down hill - about a 80 foot elevation change for a short distance - maybe a 10% grade for a few hundred feet. OK - pop the truck into 4-Lo so I can idle down the hill w/o touching the brakes (the traffic is crawling at 10mph anyway and I'm bored). But the uphill side of the road is empty of cars in the section that has the grade. I idle the next 200 yds or so to the bottom, and there is a Jeep Grand Cherokee struggling to get up the hill. Hmmm - only one rear wheel is spinning. The driver gets a running start - is on the gas real hard
(duh) and spins the one tire and slides back the 10 feet gained. So when I get along side I stop and roll down the window and stare at the driver. After a few tries, the driver notices that I'm looking at her
(it happens to be a well dressed woman in a fur coat). She rolls down the window (power of course). I say - "uh... is there a lever like thing next to the trans shifter... looks kinda like a parking brake?" She says - "Yeah" I say - "I think that's the 4WD control. Pull back on that lever to put it in 4WD... . "
