That thing is sweet! Cab and door look like standard fare so the interior should be as well. Just the front clip is special, could be hard to find replacement hood/fenders.

Finally, a Mopar chassis worthy of putting a diesel into :-laf

That brute is from a time long ago when a dodge actually was built strong enough to stand up to a 5. 9 and still be able to stop, too bad the Germans can't repeat history with a modern day GVW like this. :(

I have had 3 of those, hoods and fenders are hard to find, the fenders rot at the lower trailing edge. the cab is a reg cab but there are sheetmetal braces that come off the firewall to hang the fenders off of. the floor is a little different also, with the booster's under the driver seat. At least it has budds. the 318-3's and 361's that were in those were goverend pretty low around 4000 so you probably wouldn't lose any topend w/od trans. I might have a line on sheetmetal and am working on finding 6lug 22. 5's to get away from those splitrims and tubes

I plan on shorting the frame to put a 12 foot flat bed with lift hoist. I might also lower the truck 4 or 6 inches so it sits more like an f-550.

Man what a find! What gear ratio does it have? It has 20" wheels right? Some lucky Cummins engine is going to get a VERY respectable home.

My dad just sold a D500 like that. It was VERY straight, rust free, and was well maintained. I too thought it would be a sweet re-power candidate. He bought it to move with and sold it after the trip. I wish I had room to store all of the crap I want. :-laf

X-Fire Truck

I have a 1975 F700 retired fire truck. It is still original fire engine red paint with all the chrome grill, bumper & mirrors. It has a Clark 5 speed with a 391 Ford gasser. It came with 20 inch wheels but I put 22. 5's on it. I removed the fire body and installed a 14 ft flat bed dump. I love this truck and if I had the knowledge and a little extra cash I would put a cummins in it in a heart beat.

Yeah these big dogs are super cool.

There is a 2wd version right down the street from me! Been there about a month. I can get the info -anyone??

Sure wish you were closer, CO is a little too far for a project truck purchase. I'd probably end up looking for a class 7 or 8 semi truck with a wrecked up cab and cutting it down to fit a Mid 80's crew cab dodge onto it. That should open the engine transmission options up a little. Too bad The old dodges were such a overbuilt truck, I think it led to their demise when Iacocca stepped in and started beginning of down rating of parts that Diaper Benz has finished.

Thankfully the Cummins optioned trucks require substantially heavier components just to survive under its weight load. I can't imagine what Dodge would have done in the late 80's if they hadn't contracted Cummins for the engine. We'd probably be repowering Ford's with ISB's right now. :-laf

This one's for sale right down my street - been there a while - asking $3100 obo. My quick opinion is it looks pretty decent.

You wouldn't believe it, but my dad sold his for $1500! I about crapped myself, he GAVE that thing away! And his was a clean, solid California truck with LOTS and LOTS of new or rebuilt stuff on it.

Personally I would put a C series in it, nothing against a B but this chassis could handle it.

Mad max- IMO that guy is about $1000 too high, especially since it is only a rigid flatbed not a dump. In my area you could buy GM, Dodges, or Fords in similar GVW and vintage with dump beds all day long for around $2000.
