Saddam has been Mister nice guy to his people since the US has been on its doorstep. We all know this is an act and that he still partakes in a private type murder of his enemys from time to time. This happens all over the world.

We are in a war against terror, but our goverment does NOT know how to fight it. We have to get to the roots of the problem. Clerics in Palestine, Saudi, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Pakastan, and several other nations are spreading hate by teaching a whole generation of little Bin ladens to hate America. This is going on RIGHT now, under our noses. Maybe the Muslim faith can't police it own religion, but we could. This type of war would not be fought with guns, but with education and arrests if need be.

Oo.

Man, sometimes you are just seriuosly off your rocker!!!

For not knowing how to fight something, they certainly have killed a lot of Terrorists since 9/11.

I missed Saddam being a nice guy, do you have different news out there?

Or did the Holywood do gooders tell you that?

Afhganistan, Iraq, many more to follow.

Hopefully France and Germany before it is all over!!!

No need to bomb them, just tell the French you MIGHT bomb them, they will surrender.

Hohn,

Everybody ought to read "Animal Farm", it would sure wake 'em up about some of the things going on today. I look at my older family members, the ones who have worked their butts off for decades in hopes of a good retirement, and can't help but think about the old plow horse in the book. When all the other animals were unsure of what was going on, he kept working himself to the bone, devoted to "The Party" concept, and basically worked himself to death trying to make an unworkable system function. His reward? The pigs sell him to the knacker (the rendering plant or glue factory).

Folks, that big nasty-smelling horse trailer that's pulling up to our doors right now, you know - the one labeled "Homeland Defense" on the side - might not REALLY be taking us all to the park for pony rides... .

Unfortunately, a majority of Americans seem to love this sort of madly illogical thought-police approach, so the crackdown on our rights may be inevitable. Homeland Defense: The idea that kicking the living &*$! outta your hamster in the living room will somehow reduce the threat from rattlesnakes in the front yard... .

Get real

We haven't seen Saddam wipe out any villages since 91. He hasn't been doing any mass murders since this time either. We have the idiot in a cage right now. This doesen't come from some Hollywood do gooder, or from any cr@p spread by our Dear President. It is just fact.

With the type of mentality of just bomb and take over some have, this country is in DEEP trouble. Talk about being off your rocker. The war itself is a non issue and will be over in a very short time. It is what comes after that should worry everyone. We will be rebuilding another nation with YOUR money. While all the time occupying a country with a force of at least 50,000 troops and billions worth of equipment. And while this is going on the terrorists will be picking us off, one by one.

For every ONE Bin Laden type we kill, there are 100 more waiting in the wings. This is all because of our turning a blind eye to the hate being taught. You can take country after country and this will continue and even get worse because of our agression. Just look at israel. They are useing a heavy hand on the Palestinians, is it helping? In one word NO. How many here really believe we are winning the war on terror? If you do, we are in trouble. :D

CF, Iraq is not a country without means to support itself. Couldn't Iraq's oil pay for the nation building and associated cost?

I for one support GWB. He is a good man that is GOD fearing and goes out and tries to fix problems. We can talk until we are blue in the face but talk doesn't do anything but give more time for the hidden agendas to get even further along.

I for one feel that we outa get out of the UN. At one time it had its place but now we outa to tell them to stick it.

I say to all those that are protesting the war... Open your eye for almost any where else on this planet at this time this is the only country that you could get away with it.

Freedom and Liberty has a cost in blood our for father knew this well. And I believe that so does GWB.

George W. Bush is my president and just like Gene I don't like every thing but there isn't too many of us that will agree on everything.

And to all those serving this Great country I says Gods speed and God bless!!!!! ANd above all else THANK YOU

How? Wouldn't it need to be a broken law first?

I think this homleand defense thing could get out of hand, just wait until some anti gun politician gets elected. The ATF will have some help to harass you about your second amendment rights.

CF! You sold me!

lets go back to sitting on our hands. I mean really, if there is so many terrorists, there is no sens ein fighting. Oh wait, you said we need to educate the Arabs. Ok, lets ship some textbooks over, of course, they will be shot if they are found reading them.

Well, maybe the UN will protect us.

Wouldn't it be funny if we find Osama in Bagdad?

What would they say then??

I'm not a big fan of the homeland security bit, I didn't want the Gov taking over airport security, but it is what the libs demanded, and instead of fighting them, Bush gave it to them.

Picking his battles.

Can you imagine, if Bush would have vetoed anything that had homeland security on the top of it?

Agreeing with the Liberals never gains you anything, but it gains them everything.

Not

I by no means a preaching doing nothing. But, to go off with no clear enemy and conquering anything that has had a bad relationship with past administrations is not the way either. If you take a close look at our war on terror, more arrests have been made with police force and undercover work than with all out military campaigns. Exception being Afganastan, in which we had a clear enemy harboring terrorist activity. Bush did the right thing there.

This war on terror must change gears and go on the offensive. Not the type of offensive the American public has grown acustomed to with all out military action. But a heavy police force taking care of the clerics, schools, and known Al Queda backers. Any country or allie who does not allow these type of actions in there countrys will be dealt with as Afganastan/Taliban was. No questions, no exceptions. You would not have to prove to the world weapons of mass destruction, they will not help with this war on terror so, here we come!

What we are doing now is useing all of our resources to take a country and hold it. In the same breath we are giving the hate preachers more fire for their cause. In Palestine the majority of the children want to grow up to be suicide bombers! How do you fight this enemy? You have to get to the people that are preaching hate, you have to stop it at the source. You cannot kill a snake by cutting off the tail!

Our President has his hands full. I believe our well being is his main concern. He however is trying to win public approval for a war that does not need be fought. He is also being seen by some by not wageing a conventional type war as "doing nothing". He is in a no win situation.

I am sure we will be cleaning up quite a oil spill after we go into Iraq. If he doesen't blow all his oil facilitys up when we make our move. Or if we don't blow em up in our invasion. Of course that may be a win situation for the oil companys tight with Bush. They could all bid on whats left. :D

He is my president to, when we go to war I will back him and my troops. I won't like it, but I will. I don't know why people think because you disagree with the administrations veiws, you are automaticaly anti American, communist, socialist, Democrat, or liberal. You couldn't be farther from the truth. I disagree with everybody, I am not playing favorite. :D :D :D :D

Ol'e Norm is pi$$ed that someone else will get to take that McArthure'esk ride into bagdad chomping on a cigar in full desert gear. Back in Desert Storm, word was he wanted to strangle Powell for helping push the top brass into not going all the way to Isreal... ... .

I've just realized that we have a new triad of power... Cf, France and Germany. They are against the President at this point, but at the end of the day all three will be yelling support for him and the troops. Gee! I now feel more secure. Think I'll go take a peaceful nap. :)

That's my "take" on it...

stated pretty well here:

Hindsight being "20/20" we know now that the original UN agreement about simply ejecting SH from Kuwait was just plain bad policy. We followed it, and look what it got us. Years of headaches. It got the Iraqi citizenry another 12 years of misery, and many more loud noises in their homeland.

Just like when Patton wanted to go to Moscow... If he had, would there have BEEN a "cold war", "Korean police action", or "VietNam conflict"? I wonder... "Course, then, also, we mightn't have ever heard, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear DOWN THIS WALL!" ... that's just one of many reasons why GWB's not very patient with them now...

Yep, typical UN, socialist, liberal BS. Now everybody that has a tongue, that does not know history, is running at the mouth saying Bush Senior messed up, when all he did was follow the worlds plan.

Same with "No New Taxes" The democrats played him like a fool on that deal, and then crucified him.

I hope W has learned from his fathers mistakes and can take the bull by the horns, instead of following along behind, picking up the crapola.

Norman

Norman is one of the best generals ever put on the face of the earth. Patton was a loose cannon and Powell doesen't have a clue, except to follow the Pres. Which he really doesen't believe in and fights his tounge at every turn to not publicly disagree with him. Norman is a cautious man and wants to save his troops lives on any battlefield. This is what makes him a good general. Maybe he see's something we don't? I really don't think he wanted any part of GW and his schemes.

No matter if GW does take Iraq in a single swoop, he/we will be bogged down for years to come with the occupation of it. If you think we have had problems in the last eleven years, just wait till the next eleven!

It's not just over WMD or oil

I agree Stormin' may be biased but also believe he knows more of what's going on than anyone on this board.

Here's a recent eye opening take on things written by the Central Intelligence Agency's ex-senior political analyst on Iraq. http://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/31/opinion/31PELL.html

"Before the Persian Gulf war, Iraq had built an impressive system of dams and river control projects, the largest being the Darbandikhan dam in the Kurdish area. And it was this dam the Iranians were aiming to take control of when they seized Halabja. In the 1990's there was much discussion over the construction of a so-called Peace Pipeline that would bring the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates south to the parched Gulf states and, by extension, Israel. No progress has been made on this, largely because of Iraqi intransigence. With Iraq in American hands, of course, all that could change.

Thus America could alter the destiny of the Middle East in a way that probably could not be challenged for decades — not solely by controlling Iraq's oil, but by controlling its water. Even if America didn't occupy the country, once Mr. Hussein's Baath Party is driven from power, many lucrative opportunities would open up for American companies. "

I just read through all these posts, here's a couple of thoughts I had along the way:

Hohn, your views on taxes scare me. Where is law that you have to donate a part of your income to the gov. to hold for a year interest free? That is a CHOICE that you made. You could pay no income tax till they are due in April and just cut them one big check. You could then collect the interest from this money all year and take advantage of the same superior priviledge you are stating the gov. has. It's by your choice or ignorance that you don't, period.

Also, I'm against a flat tax. Very against it. Until I start making millions that is. Do you know that the richest 20% of Americans (75K per year and up) pay 68% of the income taxes? Do you also know that of that 1% of that 20% (375K and up) pay 20% of the income taxes? Do you also know that those who make 45K or below only pay 17% of the income taxes down from the high twenties ten years ago? I bet that if you did a search and found out how many folks make 45K and below, it would be many, many times the amount that make 375K and above. Yet, the rich pay more taxes then all of them. The rich are toting their fair share.

My favorite argument for not going to war with Iraqi is that we should deal with N. Korea first. So it IS ok to go to war as long as it's some where other then where the pres wants to go? Mmm. N. Korea is a problem that we can wait to deal with. If they do anything real stupid, they will have to deal with China and Japan as well as us.

Here's my view on Saddam. He MUST go period. I feel it is the world powers' duty to rid the world of regimes that are not willing to cooperate with the rest of the world. Look at France and Germany, they can disagree with us, but no one is going to start trading bullets over it. Iraqi, N. Korea, and countries like them are hell bent on not working with the rest of the world on anything. They must go.

I still think the flat tax is a good idea, but we need a start

number, say, the first 35,000 anyone makes is tax free.

They will never go for flat tax, becuas eit would abolish the IRS, accountants, tax lawyers, and millions of papaer shufflers.

Hmmmm... . and the downside would be?????

If any country is contained, it is N Korea.

Lets roll!
