dodge problems

jjilco,

I must have missed some of the problem posts. I never heard about heat problems in the Dodge. Lately when the temp in western Pa was near zero, my truck was as warm as my house. My wife (who is cold in the summer) was warm in my truck.

And, I have had my truck just over three years and over 30k miles. Two lift pumps under warranty. Nothing more.

I had a Ford before I bought this RAM. I GAVE it to my daughter and her husband. Know what. They are happy they got it for nuttin because they have spent quite alot of green backs on it in the three years they have had it. And I took good care of that truck as I do all my vehicles.

Remember, vehicles are man made and will fail.

Happy trails to ya

Nope, I'm gonna send another POS lover over here with his "Oil in the Turbo".

I apologize in advance. I seem to be in a foul mood tonight and have no patience for those who claim Dodge makes the worst ^%!$@# truck on the planet because of all the problems that they have had.

Knee-jerk reaction is "You should have taken care of it, and not abused it. "

Hey fella, Keep us posted from time to time with an unbiased opinion of your Chevy. OK

As far as the newer Chevy's are concerned, I do not like the looks of them. But Hey, looks are not everything. And it is good to keep up on what the competition is doing. I for one would like to have you let us know what you find for strong and weak points in the Chev. Who knows, maybe there are a few things that you tell us that we can let Dodge know that there is an improvement for out there. The best of any man made product can be improved on.

Does a TDR member live near this "poor fella", so we could verify all these problems . The only reason I ask is that since he just bought a new Duramax - and they require a Serial #, photos etc for all problems addressed on their page - we need to get him in the practice for being over there - oops - I forgot - he won't have any problems because he just bought the perfect truck... . BTW - what bridge do you think this guy lives under?

I never had a Dodge before but did like the Cummins. My friend had 4 with over 400 k on them. I was looking for a truck and saw mine in the dealership. The sticker was 41+ I walked out with it for -33 and 100,000 mile warranty. It went 28,000 miles with no problems which was a first for me in any vehicle. Then governor switch went, then the clearance lights leaked 3 times. Then a few other small items. I felt like this was the end because it all happen in very few miles. Now I have 45,000 and have had no further problems. Burns NO measurable oil between changes of 7500. Starts great even at 0. The front end is still very tight and the tires wore evenly. It pulls good loads, gets great mileage. I really have nothing bad to say. I love driving it and towing my 99 Vette to road races and using it in my construction business. I hope in keeps up the good work. Just bought a Excusion diesel so I will keep ya all posted. I did have a 89 super duty with a diesel and it never started correctly, I even left it at the dealers for weeks. Three different dealers and never got any better. I always had to crank it then stop the do it again to make it start. I sold it at 100,000. I had a 1980 1 ton chevy that went 110,000 with me and the last I heard another 150,000 with the second owner.

Sticks. Ive had two dodge cummins. The first one was incredible. The second has not been as good. Some of these trucks rock but every now and then you get a very expensive truck to maintain. I consider my current ride a lemon even though its never left me stranded and is reliable(my last rig spoiled me). transmission works ok(slips if I turn on the ez so I just use it as a boost fooler). Engine runs good. I just dont like the nickel and dime stuff and the poor mileage(less than 10 mpg). I guess im a whiner though cause now that I think all Ive done in 30k is a lift pump, seized caliper, cps and a track bar. Just past 90,000 on the clock. The front end is getting some play but I am running 33x12. 5 mudders. With that poor of fuel mileage I have to trade. I run 4000-5000 miles a month. It is expensive to keep her fueled up.

The good news is I see a 600 in my near future. If I get a truck with 15mpg average that is as much as a 300 dollar a month savings. Well worth it to trade right now. Just cleanin up some debt first.

I had trouble getting 2 good calipers on my 98 but other than that it was in the shop one time in the first 100k miles. I got 17 mpg no matter how bad I drove.

I hate to wind up like the ford boards and wind up jumping someone who has had a lame experience. The cool thing about this site is we get to vent without being lambasted. Or asked for a vin.

Sorry for your bad luck sbrandon and may you find a good truck. Sell that one pronto.

SBrandon...

I hope you enjoy your Duramax as I told my two friends down here who thought they were the answers to their constant Ford diesel(older trucks and they were problem child's) problems. BOTH of them have had their D-Maxes back to the local dealership way to many time to count one for constant head problems and the other for the Allison which can not take the constant Plow abuse and has failed now 3 times since our winter started.

Yet you still proclaim that your 98 was a POS and you can not move it. I will say this is a load of BS as most TDR owner who are looking for trucks want 98 12 valvers. I do know they don't want standard cabs but it will sell if its priced correctly(I figure yours in not or it would have been sold. I do not expect any owner to give their truck away, but, then again they will not recoup all they have spent or lost on it either),thats why they have classifieds here. Send me the info or a way to contact you and I'll see if we can place it with a owner who would love to give it a wanted home.

My advice to you from me next time you shop for a ''used'' truck...

Shop wisely and make sure you cover all the bases when looking at it so you dont buy a POS which was not taken care of or had proper maintence... ... ... Andy

BTW...

I'll stick to my original thought and ask it again of our membership here.....

Can someone pass him a crying towel please????????.

Lets be cool...

All:

Lets all stay (or maybe get back to being cool) Sbrandon has for whatever reasons had a bad experience. We are all entiltled to our opinions but Lets wish him well in getting rid of his dodge and that he doesn't have problems with his Chevy.

SBrandon: You had to know that posting this provoking thread would stir up "spirited" responses with all us Dodge/Cummins lovers around. Just like going to South Dakota during a Harley rally and proclaiming Harleys suck while sitting on your Honda:D

I think I posted earlier in this thresd I'm a lifelong Dodge owner: Cummins just sweetened the pot. Nothing ANYONE can say will EVER change my mind.

So, Sbrandon: Best of luck with your new Chevy; time to let go of the bad experience.

Hammer: What's happening, big brother. Damn winter! Dropped down to 57 today; don't know if I'll go out in that kind of cold. :D How's winter in PA? Are you going to may Madness. PM me, I need to renew my membership too.

Well, I feel I've done my duty to ensure world peace today. Next!

I think this quote sort of sums it up well. The engine really is great. (aside from lift pumps or KDPs) The rest of the truck does have some weaknesses. Auto trans is probably #1. ABS system is just plain dangerous IMHO. Track bars are another common problem, as are the steering gear and its funky geometry. Front axle disconnect instead of lockout hubs? Non-adjustable, non-bleedable clutch master/slave assembly... .

I'm sure I could think of more but those are just a few that come to mind. I'll admit there have been moments that I felt my old truck was a POS and I've cursed the DC engineers, designers, dealers, etc. Somehow the feeling is short-lived I can't part with my old truck, though. Part of the ownership proccess has become BOMBing the truck as well as the engine to overcome the problem areas. Aftermarket trans, DSS, 2 low kit, and other mods keep the "marriage" alive.

I feel bad for SBrandon to have hit the point of "divorce" with his truck. I hope that the new ride serves him well. I've never met the guy, but understand his frustrations and wish him well.

I don't feel that the "crying towel" and other comments help the situation, but are probably not yet crossing the line. Let's not go too far and attack somebody with a different opinion.

SBrandon...

You WILL NOT get away with the threat that you sent me VIA PM today as I do not take them lightly. If there was a problem with what I said, then I welcome any open discussion on it,BUT,what you did was lower than any life form I know or have had to deal with. I do not tolerate anyone who threatens me bodily harm when they do not have the testicular fortitude to stand in my face to address it.

A long time ago son a person much older than me told me this, read it,learn it, and understand its meaning... .

Be careful of the bridges you burn as you cross them. There will be a point when you will need to cross back over them and you may not enjoy the outcome in retreat... ... ... ... ... Andy

BTW... ...

Any ideas on how many rocks are in Florida?????????.

TDR Moderators and Admin... .

Its a shame to me that only the wording was handled here. Myself and others have been disciplined for many things of much less significance and some of those have suffered more stringent punishment.

I think this thread has about run it's course. Looks like it's going to go nowhere but downhill at this point. The information on your dissatisfaction is here for all to read SBrandon and I hope you have good luck with your Dmax.
