I now have 18,,000 miles on my 2004. 5 quad cab 2500 cummins, 4x4 with the factory BFG tires on it and I still have between 11/32 and 13/32 of rubber on all tires. I wanted to upgrade to a slightly larger tire pretty soon just because I like the look and to lose a few RPM on the highway. But now I hate to do anything. I have towed about 10k of the 18k and only rotated them once using the criss cross method per the Dodge owners manual.

I am now thinking that even when these wear out (if they ever do) that I may go back with the same exact tire. From the looks of this I may get 40-50k out of them. I have been running 65-75psi in them to keep the wear pattern flat but the shoulder on all tires is still wearing slightly faster than the center. So either they were built that way or I am still carrying most of the wear on the outer edge of the tire.

What kind of miles are most of you getting on the stock BFG tires?

I've got 27,400 miles on my Rugged Trails. I run 60 front, 50 rear (I think. Whatever they recommend for 75 mph with no load). The tires have been rotated once. All four tires have a tread of 10/32" on the outside, 11/32" in the centers. No cupping or any other problems. I drive 85% highway miles but have had the truck down a lot of dirt/gravel roads and up in the mountains on roads with a lot of rocks. I'm pretty impressed with them for a "factory" tire and would love to buy some take-offs if the price was right. A tire dealer in Sheridan, WY quoted me $100/tire for new truck take-offs. I wouldn't buy them at that price but would sure consider buying them at a cheaper price.

I have 50k+ on my BFG's, and they've got a lot of wear left. At this rate, I really think they'll last to 80k or so. We'll see. Feels kind of funny though. I've got a set of the Kore 18" wheels and Toyos and have had them on for about the last 6-7 weeks for a Baja trip. Just swapped the BFG's back on this weekend. I actually like the ride of the Toyo's better. But for day to day street driving, the BFG's are better suited. Maybe I'll get a slightly larger set when these wear out.

Try rotating them between 6-7000 miles as BFG recommends, it seems to help with the outer shoulder wear. $100 per tire for new tire take offs is a great price, as they retail around $160-170 per tire.

My tires are wearing more (1/32") on the inside and outside edges than in the center. I don't have heavy enough jacks to rotate tires myself and I just don't trust other people to do the job. Actually, it's been a long time since I've rotated tires on any of my vehicles and I haven't had any problems. Goes against how I was brought up and the manuals but I seem to be on a lucky streak. If I ever run across a rig that exhibits uneven wear, I'd sure rotate. I was pretty amazed that the wear, front to back, on the Dodge were so even.

Won't $160-$170 per tire go a long ways to buying "top of the line" tires? I guess that, in the past, I've been able to pick up "take-offs" for a lot less. I was just looking for a deal:)

Thanks for all the info on the BF Goodrich tires. I bought a set of take offs - complete with aluminum wheels, center caps, and lug nuts from the classifieds for $500.

You guys missed a real deal!!
