Ulsd

Fortunatly I haven't noticed a bad result. To date I have run 2500 mi on ULSD, both over the road and local. On over the road the miliage was good, and even local stop and go I've been getting 17/18 around town. I also notice that under hard acceleration, I have less SOOT out the tail pipe. Time will tell , but so far so good. ;) "Ironbutt"

ok we have had three tank fulls of this stuff and thats it

and don't you think that someone like us that has 165k on there truck

and this is our only car

can tell when it is running poorly

Hello! it' the fuel

but keep putting in yours

it's great stuff best fuel there ever was yeah rite :-laf

The only thing I've noticed since the switch to ULSD is that mine doesn't make as much black smoke. Runs about the same. Seat of the pants feel for WOT acceration is the same. EGT may be a bit lower, not sure. Starts right up. Runs smooth. Mileage about the same. Don't know about how it sounds, but my wife has not said anything.

By "us" who do mean? If you've only ran three tanks then maybe you just hit the switch over to winter blend. So what about ULSD causes your truck to run poorly? Just does huh lol.

My truck has the same result as Joe. G's truck. I like the less smoke part the best since I don't have to clean my right rear wheel as much!

I don't think they sell winter blend in south Florida it's warm here all year round

it's in the 70s and 80s most of the time. it can get cool but not much

I have noticed no difference in mileage or performance, just lack of smoke.

I have been running amsoil cetane boost and diesel additive for the past two years in every tank. Could this new fuel be clogging injectors etc...

for me, the ULSD switch happened at the same time as winter blend for the northern climate, so the drop in fuel economy is normal for me this time of year.

Everyone have a safe NewYear!

Another vote here for 'makes no difference to my Cummins'... but then, I use Stanadyne and I change my fuel filter every other oil change.

I suspect that a lot of folks who have noticed lower fuel economy are just seeing the usual effect of winter fuel, which always knocks off 1 - 2 MPG.

I like the fact that ULSD seems to foam less.

My fuel filter has a lot of miles on it. I don't use any fuel additive. My fuel pressure is still above 30 PSI at idle and over 40 PSI on the road so I'm not getting any filter clogging. No leaks anywhere.

TDI Gremlins

so all these other people are wrong but your rite

its not the fuel its us

you must be HIGh

my sister has a vw tdi jetta and it runs like **** on the ulsd

so it's not just the cummins diesel :-{}

My neighbor's TDI ran great on ULSD,just as they've run in Europe for ages. He had to trade it in though because of a multitude of electronic Gremlins. Hitler's revenge. :D

Alright V. I've counted 17 replies (counting mine) saying they haven't noticed a difference and 4 (1 of these was "mileage related" only and I think KDoer was being sarcastic) to support your arguement. That's pretty decisive, wouldn't you think? ;) I understand your frustrations but enhance your calm man.

That said, like Hammer, I have had a problem with clogged up fuel filters here in the past 2-3 months. I personally think this is related to the ULSD change-over from the new fuel "cleaning out" everything it's flowing through, so maybe this could be your problem. Change your filter and give it a try.

Just put on a MBRP 4"turn down exhaust tip.

No more soot on the Quarter panel.

Smoke? What Smoke? :-laf

I didnt notice any difference. I found a station that had the old fuel and tried that and got 1 mpg less than with ULSD. The ULSD seems to smoke a bit less though. Power difference? Cant tell. Winter Blend dropped the mpg down about 2 points though.

110,000 miles worth of crud in the tank was cleaned out by the new stuff and cost Me 1 filter but other than that I have seen no loss of power or mileage. 17 town 23. 5 hwy. I'm still happy. :)

I believe BigPapa is right. I'm a charter bus mechanic and I've had more clogged fuel filters in the last 6 months than the last 5 years. I think all the "Sludge" is just getting cleaned out of the sytem. Other than that, no problems. No noticeable loss of power or running rougher and my truck is sitting at 213k w/ original injectors.

I am happy with the new fuel. I have had no filter problems and have had zero complaints. I just got 1. 2 MPG increase over a 1296 mile trip running ULSD from the same pump that had been winterized. I normally get about 18-19 on hwy now I get about 20. I have less smoke, smooth idle and same EGTs. around town is about the same as the old, just less smoke. Just my experience with the stuff.

Here in S. A. we started seeing ULSD in August, definitely NOT winter blend. Since then all of the stations have changed over. The first time I ran it 2 mpg gone, next tank was LSD, 2 mpg back, and it continued this way till all the stations changed over, now I can't get any better than 18. 6 mpg all highway, empty, not going over 70 mph. Yeah, I think it has something to do with the fuel, but also, remember our trucks weren't designed to run on ULSD, European cars are designed to, and the ones shipped over here are optimized for the fuels here, meaning LSD.

yes thats rite

I for one will run mmo or 2 cycle ashless oil in my tank with ulsd the vp44 needs it time will tell how the vp44 likes the new fuel

kep it lubed up

I MAY NEED TO CHANGE MY FILTER
