I don't know but I must be lucky then; or maybe its because of that ol' p-pump under the hood, but I've not seen or noticed and difference at all. Mileage is the same (18-19) no unusual pings or ticks and no less smoke. I need to change the fuel filter though, mainly because I'm curious to see what it looks like.

something interesting

The people I have talked to that have the P7100 12-valve engine, are seeing very little change in the trucks performance, some folks with the VP's are having some trouble with the ULSD. I have not heard any big problems though. I am one of the 12 valvers' so I am not sure what to say. I have had nothing bad to say about it. I have three trucks on the farm and have had zero problems with it. My 02' 3500 likes the stuff, but I have been putting about a quart if hydraulic oil in the tank since I got it about a year ago. I don't drive the truck that often "less than 5K a year" though, and prefer my 97' over the 02'. This spring I will know more about the 02' because I will be pulling the dozer more.

remember our trucks weren't designed to run on ULSD, European cars are designed to, and the ones shipped over here are optimized for the fuels here, meaning LSD.
Explain? I believe most manufactures switched to Viton seals in the mid 90s. How are they "optimized" for LSD?

No problems..

We started the changeover in march, our tanks were in spec with a month, I am sure that ULSD was in spec by mid summer, yet many stations did not sticker until this fall. My 95 runs fine, I am about due for filter change, so will post the condition of filter. My wifes TDI Bug runs great on the ULSD, it came up with a check engine light last summer, but after biting the bullet and buying a vag com plug in, it was just a bad glow plug. Not a biggy. .

After working with this ULSD for the last nine months there are many unscientific things different with it. It has a milder smell, it seems to have a heavy viscosity, yet gravity is still the same, freeze points are the same as old lsd, flash is the same, of course color is just a dye factor. Our lubricity levels are much higher than required, but I still use cetane booster, and a touch of diesel modifier (Amsoil). Our cetanes are still holding the same at around 45-48, would love to see some higher cetane levels, as in Europe. .

was changing my fuel filter the nut on top of the fuel filter was loose

put in a new fuel filter the old filter was clean just a some small black specks

but not bad at all

i think I was getting some air in the system the new filter is on the truck it runs great even the fass II pump that was making noise has stopped

could air do all this the filter was not tight

but it did run

it runs great now

To date, I haven't noticed any loss in mileage or power with ULSD. I do notice less smoke and less "timing rattle" (it's an Edge EZ/Cummins HO thing) when towing. No complaints here.

Champane, what dye, I thought all taxed on road fuel was suppose to be free of any dyes? When I talked to our supplyer for the farm a couple years ago he said that this was coming and the cleaning effect would occur just like if we tried the B20. I never noticed any change in my truck but have been running the B20 also. This will clean out everything including the tank and lines on your truck. If you have any scum etc on your tank you will find it in the filter, the first change I had after running the B20 my filter canister was nasty!

Has anyone run it long enough to notice if their engine oil stays cleaner longer, I noticed it after I ran the B20 for a couple thousand gallons? (Causes less smoke, less soot buildup in oil?) No I have never tested the oil just a observation.

what I had was over the top it seem it was a loose fuelfilter nut that was making the truck run badly

I think it was letting a small amount of air in to the system :--)

Electronic engine controls are calibrated for the fuel the vehicle is intended to use, which would make a difference.

Ours..

A light flouresent green dye is used on our ULSD, it is used to keep ULSD segregated from other fuels. Red is the color of untaxed fuels, and HSD. .

Dyes

It was explained to me by the local IRS man, he said each refinery has a different chemical signature used ny homeland security and the IRS. He used to come monthly and pull samples of both our dyed fuels and undyed. He is swamped now and since we quit carrying red . . :D

Do you have any SPEC sheets to show that actual values of these fuel properties ??

That would be VERY INTERESTING to see!

Yes,but...

I don't know if it would be a breach of company policy to post them here. I will check and get back with you, it might be awhile, we have been hit with quite a snow. It will take me a day to dig out of my house, I am off on vacation, and glad of it. . :D

It's better to have it and not need it

than to need it and not have it !

I tryed 2 cycle oil it seems to like it.

Your ear can tell what the engine likes.

I WANT THAT MILLION MILES I NEED THAT MILLION MILES!!!!!!!!

YOU HAVE NO CLUE!!!

YES, I WILL GET THAT MILLION MILES AND WHEN I DO I WILL START LOOK FOR A NEW ENGINE BUT ONLY THEN. AM I CLEAR!!!!!

Ok, now that I got that off my chest where was I

if your smart you will add something to the fuel don't think big brother is going to lookout for you.

They want you to buy new cars as often as possible.

It's all about the money!

Get yourself a Dodge Cummings and a Kirby vacuum and you have something that will last as long as you use your head and keep it in good shape.

This new fuel, well only time will tell.

As for me I will add what ever I think will help my vp 44 survive.

If you live in a blissful world where EVERYTHING is grand. Then go for it,

and I have a bridge you can buy. It's so blissful I'll even tell you it's good for you if you want me to!!! You get it! Whats not clicking? Whats not clicking?

HELLO THE 07 DIESELS ARE SET UP TO RUN ON ULSD THE OLDER ENGINES WHERE NOT! IS IT clicking IN YET? YOU GET WHERE I'M GOING HERE

WHY CHANGE THE ENGINES IF THE O6 AND BACK WILL NOT HAVE A PROBLEM

JUST USE THE 06 ENGINE ALL IS WELL. BUT NO, THEY HAD TO REDO

THAT ENGINE TO MAKE IT RUN WRIGHT. VW, CUMMINGS, FORD, AND SO ON.

READ AND YOU SHALL SEE!

IT'S LIKE THIS, 12 MEN CAN JUDGE YOU OR 6 MEN CAN LOWER YOU IN THE GROUND. YOUR CHOICE!

GO FOR IT.
