Hey guys, been a while. I've been battling with my rig lately, Injection pump keeps throwin codes then returning to normal, I believe given the trouble codes I've been pulling the electronics are on their way out... . I've also been getting injection pump valve stuck codes so I have no Idea. anyway, what I'm actually posting about is my brakes, they went out last weekend I still have rear wheel brakes but the front are barely engaging, I've looked all over to find the leak as I'm losing brake fluid, but no leaks are showin their ugly lil heads, I'm runnin short on Ideas on what's goin on, you guys got any suggestions.

Kevin

did you check on the firewall and/or inside the cab for fluid leaking from the master cylinder. Mine leaks occasionally onto the driver floor board and then stops. Its just a matter of time before i have to replace it but.

Could also be that the fluid is slipping past the master cylinder or it could be going into the booster tank. Had both happen on a furd f250.

upon further investigation, turns out the rear brakes which I checked less than a month and a half ago have disentigrated, they had 1/4 inch of pad left when I checked them, but now the rear plate of the rotor next to the pistons is gone, metal part of pad is grinding on the cooling fins of the rotor and the rubber seals are cooked out of the caliper... . on both sides no less, I'm gonna say this is probably the most confusing thing I've ever seen, I can't recall seeing catestrophic failure of brake pads and rotors like this before in a short time frame like this... . although I am happy to find the fluid leak and problem area, picking up the parts tuesday to repair it...

Kevin...

Sounds like the parking brake was either partially engaged or stuck in the on position and you took off and drove the truck like that. Think back as you probably had a day when the truck really seemed to tug hard or wind up very slowly, thats when it happened.

I just today replaced all the emergency brake cables on my 98 due to them sticking last week when it got cold. It seems that they aged and the outer sleeve cracked and allow moisture to get in and when it got cold you could not get them released. All fixed now I am just glad I caught it the day it happened and didn't brun up a set of pads and drums..... Andy

I hadn't really put a lot of thought into the ebrake as the pads have been worn out for over 6 months now, it hasn't held much if at all, I do recall looking down and seein it set after about a 30 mile drive though, so I'd say you're right on with the diagnosis Andy.
