Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) ? my truck sounds like a gasser....?

Well my current setup of :

01 ctd SO

piers HX40 16cm

DD3 s injectors

straight pipe.

auto trans

afe stage 1

Edge Drag Comp (tapped)

HTT 3 piece manifold ported/polished



my setup on 5x5 at a high RPM under load (going down road and putting the pedal down) it sounds like a gasser almost. by that I mean it sounds like its popping... . kinda like a powerchoke thats got a timing advance box. its not using any antifreeze... . the oil pressure is a little high on startup but comes back down when it warms up.



Im not sure what the deal is. any ideas?

at idle I can run my hand around the ports and not feel anything (early startup when cool)



Maybe I opened up the ports on the manifold a little too much? heck I dont know.



Im only hitting 40-45 top boost

possible headgasket

Mine did that on the highway, it sounded like it backfired but what had happened was the head lifted and popped the headgasket pretty bad. Every cylinder was blown and it poured coolant all over the place and started overheating almost immediately. I untapped the comp and am waiting for a bigger turbo before I reconnect it. I also put ARP studs in it and torqued them to 130 ft/lbs per Jetpilot's recommendations. I had them too loose before and they didn't hold, I'm hoping I don't have to o-ring yet.

I backed off the fueling and it didnt do it. Maybe Ill pull the injectors and have them tested? I too plan on O-ring/stud in the near future. just need the trans work first.

it could be the flame going past the turbo. mine did it befor and it kinda has a crakle to it, weird sound.

well how do I get it to quit. I dont want to lose power but I dont want it sounding like crap either.
