Is that padding wrapped on the outside of it? If so, is it for sound insulation or is it a scattershield?

Bill, the padding is there for two reasons, to keep the blower warmer and also for personelle protection to prevent burns.

The caseing on the blower is 3" thick and cast iron Kevin

What the heck is it for?

Is that a plant in Wyoming? If so, what type - Cogeneration, refining, chemical? Are they taking applications??? I'm getting tired of working in "sunny" western Washington.

This blower feeds air to our reaction furnace where it is combined with what we call acid gas, which is 85% H2S and the rest is CO2 and COS, in the reaction furnace the acid gas is burned this creates SO2 and that is the first step in making it into sulfer.

The Roots blowers are high speed units, we have one that is turbin drive, the turbin is driven by 450# steam, we have plenty of steam on hand from a waste heat boiler that works in conjunction with the reaction furnace, the other blower is electric drive so we can start the plant from a cold start up.

This all belongs to a sour gas plant (350 million dollar) in central Wyoming that has an inlet feed of 200 MM and will be selling 120MM, this is our third plant at which I am currently an inspector of until start up in August and then I will go back as an operator on shift. And yes we are looking for EXPERIENCED hands, they want a minimum of 5 years of gas processing . If any of you are qualified and are interested PM me. Kevin

The plant where you work sounds very similar to one of the processing units at the refinery where I am employed. It seems that they both perform the same function. I have nineteen years of refining experience, ten as an operator and nine in maintainance. My present job is turnaround planner and executor. So, how in the heck do you guys handle those cold winters? Are you a co-op?

DBR, the winters can be pretty tough on us, our hope is to stay on line with no problems but if we loose a train we have to get on all of our aireal cooling bays quick and get the louvers shut in and then turn the steam heaters on to keep from freezing up, its a big challenge but its also a very interesting job that is never boring.

I wish we were co-gen, at my last job we were ,we used a slip stream of methane to generate 20 KW electricity thru some solar turbins that made enough electricity to run the plant. We have contract obligations up here for a few more years until we can look at that... ... ..... Kevin

Wow! The one and only HX-3500! I heard that HVAC did some

testing with that one but the turbo-lag was so horrendous

trying to get that wheel up to speed!

That would sure light up our tires. Only thing I want to know is what went through it. I notice by the first picture that the blades look like they sucked up a gravel pit. On the last one I notice that the pipe is broke. Give with the down and dirty.

There are 2 of these high volumn air pushers and they have never been used before, the pictures just make it look as you describe. One is driven by an electric motor and the other driver is a steam turbine, we gennerate a ton of 450# steam so its free for the taking... ... ... ... . Kevin
