2018 ram trailer electrical question

I flew in last night into LAX, 40 miles from my home. My poor truck took a beating from my wife.

My wife drives a 2013 ss camaro automatic as her daily driver, she drove my poor truck like it was a 6.2 gasser last night, I couldn’t believe how it could feel from the passenger seat, nothing but stabbing the throttle like a 16yr old teenager to get it up to speed and pass people. Sorry for the rant, I just couldn’t believe it, hopefully this DRD tuned and deleted truck on a 60hp can handle it, she drives it during the week and has put at least half of the miles on my truck (11k total)

Needless to say, last night I experienced every single question and answer I have posted about the 68rfe in one diving session, it was like every single discussion about it bundled into one driving session.

An empty truck should not pose a problem. Now, drive like that at GCWR!

Ok, thank you!

That’s kind of the answer I’ve always been looking for. I come from a 03 cobra which the weakest drivetrain link for me is the tires because it will break them loose before smoking the clutch. Not the same with this truck.

She will NEVER drive it with a trailer hooked up!
So I should be ok with that kind of scenario from her as long as it’s an empty truck? Within reason of course. The biggest issue with her is that she will be in 6th gear, decide she needs to change lanes or pass and instantly slams down the throttle to get it to downshift and pass, so she essentially works every gear pretty hard, should be ok unloaded though correct?

Sorry again for the senseless questions and rants, I’m pretty new to the diesel world, and yes I constantly use the search function, I have read ALOT over the last few months and you guys are a wealth of information.

Mario.

On a stock truck you can't hurt it. On a 60HP tune I would be careful. Remember those couple of people who advised you that you are your own warranty station? You can't hurt the engine or the rest of the truck, but the transmission is probably not really liking the additional power.
Not saying it will break (or wear out) at that level (at least not right away) but I don't want to see FCA take it in the shorts if it does. Other than that, sounds like the wife to have!

I feel more sorry for you living that close to LA than I do for your trans. Did you get a trans tune with your engine tune? If you had the trans tuned also, the 60hp increase shouldnt be a problem.

Haha oh my... Time to take hers out for a spin with her in the passenger seat right? lol

I don’t have any plans for FCA to do any powertrain work on my truck, that’s why I deleted at 4,000 miles.
I understood fully when I bought the truck that I would be in contact with revmax eventually (not buying a Cummins was never an option) I just hope it lasts at least 40k. If it doesn’t, oh well.

My wife is awesome, I can’t really blame her. I’ve tried to explain the whole roll into the throttle routine, it’s like telling a 2yr old, I guess I can’t be too mad, she did ok a 60k purchase, and knows revmax will likely be another 10k so the surprises will be minimal.

Yes sir, Double R Diesel delete tunes using MM3 and his custom transmission tuning, it shifts great after the tunes.

Take the tune out (valet) when she is driving it. What a thrasher I'd be pissed my wife did that to my truck.

No matter how you explain things, some people will drive the way they want and not worry/care about the differences of what vehicle they're used to.

My dad was like this. He learned to drive as a teen in the 1950s and had that old-school habit of revving the engine as he turned the key off... "to make sure it has a full charge" was his explanation. Yes, back in the day of generators, but certainly not necessary with alternators. When he hit 50, he bought his "mid-life crisis" car, a brand new solid black 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. I warned him repeatedly about revving the engine when he turned it off because it would damage the turbine over time. He didn't listen, and before the car was 4 years old, it needed significant turbo repairs - car never drove the same way again. Fast forward a few years, and he asked to borrow my 96 Cummins - that good ol' all-mechanical 12-valve - he and his brother were moving some stuff for my grandmother. No prob. When he brought it back, I heard him pull into the driveway (it was a 12-valve, how could I *not* hear it...) - I heard the idle level out which meant he had shifted to Park... then I physically cringed when I heard him rev the engine and race the Holset as it shut off.

Some people will just do what they always do behind the wheel.
