Most Deals are contingent on financing, If you keep the Cummins you may not Qualify for the Capital to purchase, In most States by Law they will have to return your Deposit. OO don"t feel for the Dealer, its Business.

Anyway, I asked him what he got for fuel mileage. He said 15 mpg.

I've learned that only about 1% of the population actually bothers to track their fuel mileage. Everyone else just picks a number based on "feelings". It's unlikely that guy was getting anywhere near 15 mpg, but I would argue that he didn't actually lie to you with that figure - he genuinely believes that's what his fuel mileage is. Just like the Excursion owner I spoke with a few months ago who claimed to get 24mpg.

DHerzog - something made you dislike the Dodge. Chances are, that dislike will come back again after you've driven it awhile. All the more so if you end up throwing away $1k by canceling your order. As a result, I think you should drop the Dodge and buy the Ford you ordered. Either way you'll regret the decision - either because you remember why you dislike the Dodge and the fact that you threw out $1k, or because you will always wonder whether you'd have been happier keeping the Dodge. Since getting the Ford saves $1k, you're better off going that way.

I had a 02 FOrd F-350 Crew cab Dually V-10 it was a pile, the lower end of the engine started going out after 36K miles, THe best that truck got was 13. 5 mpg!!! That was it, and I was towing a 22' fifth wheel at 70mph it took me over 2 miles with my foot buried to pass another camper. YEah dont get one they are crap, and 15 mpg was him just trying to make him self feel good about his poor purchase.

Man Keep the Cummins, and don't beat yourself up. As said before go to the dealer and see if you can get out of the deal. In between my 2000 Dodge cummins and my current ride I bought a 2004 GMC 8. 1 gas hog. No load 11mpg and with 11k behind it 7 to 8mpg depending on conditions. I took a beating on the trade to my 2005 cummins(way more then the 1,000. 00 you might loose) so don't feel bad we all make mistakes every once in a while. My 2005 is getting 18. 5 on average unloaded and 15. 5 with 11k behind her with more power then that 8. 1 ever gave me. My friends 2000 that pulls 15k generators for more then half of its life just turned 340,000 miles. Other then normal maint. all he has replaced is one lift pump and upgraded the auto transmission at 208,000. That Furd you were thinkin about ain't gona do that. Good luck with what ever you do.

We have many F450's w/V10's at work. They're constantly loaded. On a good day they might get 8mpg. I don't drive them too often. One time I made 9mpg.

One thing to also remember is that the Blue Book value of a diesel will always be higher than an equally equipped gasser. With each mile you drive the V10 it is dropping in resale faster than the Cummins. Put 400,000 miles on the V10 and see how well it runs against a 400,000 Cummins. If you want better mileage, more power, more longevity and better resale value... keep the Dodge. If not, go get that Ford.

Big Block Revival

I read in our local rag,an article about the '07 diesels and expected $2500-5,000 increase in cost over and above the $5,500 already charged for diesel motors. Chevy dealers have been alerted to expect an increase of 8. 1 liter sales as they run $890. 00 vs. $11,000 for the new Duramax. Throw in the minimal maintenance of a modern gasser and its a shoe-in!

When I was with Montana Rifle Company, we went back east to get two P&W deep hole drills. These puppies weight a little over 6k each. We put them on a three axle trailer and made the trip from NH to Montana.

The truck was a F250 with a V10, chipped and I mean to tell you that was a loooong trip. The truck was also an auto, and it could not hold third against the headwinds going west in the Dakota's. Average going east, with a 53 Cadillac up was around 7. 5-8mpg. Average going the other way was 5. 3-4. 8mpg. The wheels were black with brake dust and the truck was traded within two weeks after we got back.

The V10 has NO low end grunt.

Like you, I had a CTD auto, and the shift patterns were getting the better of me. Looked for a 6-speed, but with all the options I wanted... and it could not be... would not be equipped with a G56 (for gearing reasons only). My Dodge dealer for the 04 went the extra mile and found an 05 that fit the bill. Wasn't the best deal I ever made, but I now have exactly the truck I originally wanted.

If it were me, I would not go with the V10, even a Dodge V10. Try to get back the $1000k but lose if you have to. Driving a truck with even one thing wrong turns the experience from just ok to miserable as the miles add up.

depreciation + fuel costs + stranded/maintanence costs will add up to WAY over $1k very quickly... as stated, you'll lose well over a thousand dollars just driving it off the lot.

try to get that $1k back, if you can't, you're STILL saving money!!!!!!

Put an add in the paper that you are selling your order for $500-$1000 and see if some "Ford Boy" bites!

The new Ford V10 is susposed to be a great engine, big improvment over the previous one, it is around 360hp now isn't it?

With the huge premium for the diesel engine and the huge premium for diesel fuel if I were buying a truck today I would buy a Ford V10 SD F350, I would not sell my truck and take a huge loss to do it though.

Unless things change with diesel engine options and fuel prices I will be going back to gas in 3 years or so, I keep my trucks about 6 years, 100k miles, by that time I am ready for a change.

Hey bud, I feel your pain! I went through the same thing when I bought the Ram. My first truck I bought was a brand new 2003 Ford Ranger FX4 Level 2. It was fully loaded, every option you could get, and it was a pile. I loved it, but everytime I drove it and it broken, I got more upset... .

Like someone else said, you had a reason to hate the Ram in the beginning. If you think that may creep up again, dump it now and get what you want. It sucks paying payments on something you don't like.

I just talked to a fellow at the local gas station today. He was filling up his Ford F350 2wd, dually, crew cab, w/V10 under the hood. Attached to the rig was a trailer that had to be about 30 ft long. It was an enclosed triple axle trailer, and not very aerodynamic by any means. And loaded heavy.
Anyway, I asked him what he got for fuel mileage. He said 15 mpg. My jaw about hit the ground!!!!. I asked him if there were any aftermarket mods done to the truck, and he said no.
I am hoping that if you get the V10, that you keep us informed as to how it performs, and what kind of mileage you get. If it is as good as that fellow said, I would be looking to trade my 04 in. If I could get one that made that kind of mileage, beings gas is cheaper than diesel, I would be waaayyyy ahead.
I personally have never sat behind a V10, so I know very little about them.
Good luck with whatever choice you make.
The guy is yankin' yer wanky! Anyone who has owned a v10, or knows anyone with one knows they don't get mileage like that EVER!! Pull your head out, you're getting **** on it!!!

I own a 76 ford that has averaged 16-18 mpg on the highway and it had a built 466 cid big block for towing a fifth wheel, it was around 340 rwhp, the current engine is under construction, it is a 501. 4 cid big block, we are shooting for 600 rwhp and 10mpg on pump gas, volumetric efficiency is a major player in fuel economy, i have owned fords, chevy's, dodges, toyotas, they all have their place so get what you want, its your money..... ;)

Well the first thing to remember is the WIFE IS ALWAYS RIGHT! You should know that, but eating a $1k mistake is better than making a $40k+ mistake.

And with the current price of gas going up faster than diesel at least you have that fact to rationalize the decision.

Don’t feel bad about walking away from $1K. That is cheap. I bought a 2005 2500 SWB 5. 9 last May. I bought the truck to fit my slide in camper. I went on vacation and found a new camper I had to have. It weight 4200 lbs. the 2500 can only handle 2900 lbs. I can say that happiness was worth the $10K I took it in the shorts for in the trade in.
