While at work today I learned of a local wheelin spot.

I figured I should go check it out after work, since it was only a couple minutes out of my way.

Well, that couple minutes, turned into five hours!

I was backing out of a spot I didn't like, felt the rear of the truck go down a bit... Ok, no problem... Little smoke pedal... back becomes free... . WHAM!!!! the front SINKS!! Oh hell!!!! SMOKE SMOKE SMOKE! :-laf I quit within thirty seconds. Knew I was going to make it worse :(

So I called a friend with a chevy on 35s... Hour later and, no way! Figured I would try the folks, my mother answered the phone, and I had her out there in the 04. 5, within another hour.

The 04. 5 pulled the truck right out! :D

So thats my evening (I left out a BUNCH of details)

looks like the weight of the cummins got you in trouble. I hope it never puts me into your same situation. At least another dodge pulled you out and not anything else.

Are those Kuhmo Venture MT's on that beast?

That's what I have. How do you like them?

Josh

Nope, those are BFG MT's

They suck on the highway (wont balance, and noisy as hell!)

In the mud they are great.

But, the chevy has 35x12. 50 BFG MT's and they are great! they balance, wear extremely well, but are still a little noisy.

CJ

Almost every real MT has that 4 Lug Across pattern.

Sweet looking dually. .

My brother did the same thing to my truck while I was out of town. . Put it in a hole to the rocker panel. Took 4 hours and an old ford F6000 (I think) wrecker.

Did that one time a few years back. Got my 93 Toyota on 30"ers stuck up to the diffs. :eek: :{

Called a buddy..... he got stuck trying to get me out (night time).

Cops got called... ... thank God it was a buddy of mine got off scott free there. :-laf Mom & Dad didn't find it very funny @ 12AM though.

Truck sat overnight then was extracted by a wrecker driver that lived on my fathers mail route. Took all of his winch cable and 2 logging chains to reach me. :-laf

I asked the gentlemen what I owed him... . he replied "did you learn anything son" to which I quickly replied "YES SIR"... . he looked at my father and said "he doesn't owe me anything" Oo. :-laf

Lessoned Learned AMEN!! 1000lb engines go straight down... .

We need some pics of your truck.

Mine isn't picture worthy. . I tried using my cab and bedside as a chainsaw... ... Road fell out from in-under me... over into the trees I went.

Wow, that is AWESOME! C'mon, adventures like this are what makes life fun!

What in the world did you sink into? It doesn't look very muddy in the pictures. What kind of recovery gear did you have with you? Did you dig around the tires completely before pulling it out? Did you break anything?

What were the biggest lessons you learned? What sort of tools did you wish you had with you that would've made the extraction much faster?

-Ryan

You should invest in a hi-lift jack and some equipment for it (ie, a base for that soggy ground) :) I tried to cross a ravine (gully, ditch, crevace, whatever) with a bronco and the rear tires caught down in it... Put the high lift under the reese hitch and lifted it and then pushed it forward off the jack..... $50 well spent on that chunk of metal.

Why did it sink? I BACKED into a washout

Recovery gear? two feet and a cell phone

Dig all around the tires? No, I only dug out from under the bumper.

Break anything? I tore the grey piece of plastic on the front bumper while trying to use the trailer ramps. (before the dually was called), broke off a aux. backup light, and tore off a mudflap.

Lessons learned? Hardly! This was simply an accident.

Tools I wish I had? I would like to have a winch. But since I mainly drag race the truck I don't want to add any more weight.

As for a hi-lift jack... I was unable to use a floor jack! I doubt a hi-lift jack would have helped this beast.

BTW, Ryan, after looking at your pictures, it seems that we are both very much into experimenting with the electrical and fuel systems on our trucks.

Did you manage to figure out how to achieve high idle, without kickin the truck into limp mode? It seems that you have completed a project I am still working on.

Hey man I know the feeling. I got my '05 2500 4x4 stuck earlier this month in a clients driveway. I've been wheelin for years and never got stuck, unless I was just trying to be stupid. Anyhow my truck looked exactly like your did, exact same situation, I tried to make a U-turn in my clients yard, he said he did it all the time. It was grass just like in your picture, got about 1/3 of the way into the turn and I stopped because it didn't feel right. Shifted to 4wd-high and the truck ddn't move, I should have quit there, but shifted to 4wd-low and the front sank all the way up to the axle like yours. It took about 4 1/2 hours, a lot of digging and my dads 4Runner to get er free. I've sice learned these trucks don't like anything but hardpacked surfaces.

My stuck thread from earlier this month.
