I stumbled across an advertisement for Chevy HD comparison testing today.
This series of testing was certified by AMCI (hired by Chevy) but clearly was tainted by the lack of the Ram in ALL categories.
“To find out this info, we hired AMCI Testing to conduct a series of independently verified truck comparison tests. With nearly 30 years of experience, they are the single most sought-after source for the investigation and substantiation of automotive product claims. They put Silverado HD, Ford Super Duty and Ram HD through a series of tests designed to simulate everyday scenarios. And in order to substantiate their findings, AMCI requires each vehicle to turn in its best numbers up to 24 times at the hands of multiple drivers. This helps confirm the performance of each vehicle tested. ”
It seems Chevy didn’t want the ALL of the results from the RAM for it’s comparison.
1. Acceleration: 1. Chevy 2. Ford 3. Ram
2. Acceleration at altitude: Same results
3. Frame Strength: Bumper Sag: Same results
Here is where it gets interesting:
4. Frame Rigidity: Frame Twist: 1. Chevy 2. Ford 3. Ram (missing from the test altogether)
5. Passing Ability: Same as #1
6. Braking: Brake Fade: 1. Chevy 2. Ford 3. Ram (missing from the test altogether)
7. Braking: Exhaust Brake: 1. Chevy 2. Ford 3. Ram (missing from the test altogether)
Clearly they are exploiting the lack of power the Ram had (prior to the 800 ft lb, H. O. version) but, how does anyone take this seriously when they leave out a serious contender.
