Mystery to me, anyway.

Yesterday I go to start the truck, the lift pumps fire like they should, but when I take the key back out of the ignition (I forgot something inside at work) the lift pumps KEEP RUNNING!

I'm like, 'Jeez, these things are gonna drain my batterys dry!' So I go ahead and start the truck. The thing starts right up and I get home fine.

I come out this morning and I got two dead batterys and a clicking sound under the hood. I disconnected the batterys to charge them back up and the clicking stops.

Anybody have any ideas? I'll check codes when I charge the batterys.

What year is your truck? My 01 has done that before with the on, off because I too forgot something. It might be a one time thing. A relay could have been the issue. Is it still doing it?

Once you get the batts charged, put an ammeter in series with one batt and leave the second batt unhooked (series means that all the batt current flow must flow through the meter too). Make sure when you first hook up the meter you don't exceed its current rating and smoke it.

Then start pulling fuses/relays one at a time until the current flow drops. That will be the culprit circuit. Then you can focus on why it is pulling down the batteries.

My 99 once had a bad Seat Belt Control Module under the seat that pulled down batteries over time... but your 01 probably has mechanical lockup seatbelt reels. This applies only to QCab trucks, front seats. I think the SCTM modules were only for 98-99. They had been culprit on several other trucks.

(Mad Scientist Laugh) I found it!

Wasn't hard, after the sun came up. The intake horn has that discolored, overheated, dang I got hot look to it. :{

Threw away the OEM gird heater solenoids,(relays) and put some big extreme duty snowplow solenoids on there and a big toggle switch.

Now they come on WHEN I SAY SO!!!!!

MUWAAHAAHAAHAAHHAAAAA!!!!!!!! :-laf

I'm gonna order a set of heater elements, just in case these are on there last legs. Now we'll see if this Odyssey battery was worth the coin!

Thanks guys, time to re-enlist fer another year!
