Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) mystery broken ground wire!

i have a 98. 5 ram 2500 24v with about 200k on it. anyway i have the constant lock unlock problem with my trans..... still trying to figure it out but today i was looking at my batterys and my drivers side battery negative cable has a smaller gauge factory ground wire coming from the battery terminal but its not connected to anything. its about 12-16" long roughly and i was just wondering where it is supposed to be connected. any help would be greatly appreciated. maybe this will magically fix my trans!

Mine goes to the bottom of the engine block to the left of the harmonic balancer. Hope this help.

On my 2001 that wire is grounded by a small bolt in front of battery,on the support frame.

do you have some slack in your wire that goes to the support frame? i was thinking that is where my wire is supposed to go too as there is a broken terminal on one of the bolts, but figured that was too easy.

thanks i just connected it to the support frame (radiator support) where the broken piece was. i also disconnected the batterys so the computer could reset. lets see how long the truck will go now before it starts "hunting" again

TFarrell,look at www.kentsoil.com/dodge bug. I have t 2002 with your same bug and I bought the filter for it just can,t install untill this fall as truck is in new mexico and I,m in alaska until oct. I,ll post how it works when done
