well i installed my mystery switch last night. the tst website says you could potentially pic up 3-6 seconds on your speed and let me tell you i did. i did this same procedure on my 99 CTD and it did not effect speed at all. with this ats and my mods HOLYSHTI! but let me tell you the switch took some getting used to.

i have two orange wires with a black stripe and of course i hooked it up to the wrong one first. for future reference on a 97 the correct wire is the thicker of the two orange and black wires. well anyway got that figured out and got it installed only to back out of the driveway and when i put it in drive the converter locked up and killed the engine oops! well i flipped the switch and off we go i then tried to lock it up around 20mph while at part throttle tried to kill the engine and the transmission was making bad noises so i flipped it off very quickly. i can only lock this thing up that low when i have it floored. now from a standing stop if i nail it it shifts to 2nd and 25mph i lock it up and let me tell you i found the power down low that i have been missing. you see i bought this truck with this transmission and no lock up so i have been tooling around town just heating the crap out of my transmission... ... not anymore.

this truck runs like a rapped ape from 25-75 now before defueling and now the egt grimlans have reared their head. what ticks me off fore 5000 miles all i was doing on a hard run was turning power into heat in my transmission. this has me worried now..... guess its time to change the fluid and keep my fingers crossed. when the transmission is not locked up before 45mph how bad is it for the transmission?

one final word a modded transmission is unreal. i will be keeping my ats instead of switching to a 6 speed i found my lost power!!!!!. . oh yea and my lost egt's

Hey Cat, Is this something possibly recommended on a decently built stock auto? I'd love to be able to keep the converter locked.

Allowing these transmissions to shift while the convertor is locked up is hard on the transmission! In my opinion, the best use of a mystery switch is to lock the convertor during towing in lower gears at lower speeds to keep trans. temp down. For instance, if you are towing and cannot really get out of second gear because of traffic, manually select second gear and lock the convertor. By manually selecting second, the trans. will not upshift and will stay cooler. HTH

pullin, i dont understand what you are asking. you can lock up the converter in a stock transmission as long as you dont make it slip.

Cat, What i am asking is, Will hooking up a TC lockup switch hurt a stock transmission. I understand that having it locked will keep it from slipping. Just wanted to make sure this is a mod that's ok for a stock/semi built trans.

Thanks

The TST web site has a page on the pros and cons of using this devise and a wiring diagram. I used mine when my transmission was stock and did not have any problems. I used mine mainly to overide the TPS when it would act up.

locking it up will not keep it from slipping! what it will do is allow you to transfer power through the converter instead of the fluid coupling. with all of the TQ my truck us putting out when i am not locking up in 2nd all my truck do is turn hp into heat when i lock it up on a hard run i am putting down an extra 70-90hp no doubt. when i did this mod to my 99 auto and ez when i locked it up all it did was slip the converter. i only use my lock up switch when i am racing, towing, downhilling with load. utherwise i ease my foot into it and let the fluid coupling do the work. taking off fast with lots of hp running w/o lockup results in lots of heat and bad mpg.
