why the hell wont they recall all the models with the d*mn KDP's that fall out and cause our engines to screw up? that p*sses me off bad; herre is the quote that p*sses me off.

"Chrysler also is recalling 46,000 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 pickups because of a potentially weak weld on a rear axle bracket. The recall affects only four-wheel-drive models built before November 2001, the automaker said.

No owners have complained about the bracket, but the problem could affect long-term durability, Chrysler said.

Dealers will install a reinforcement bracket on the affected vehicles. "

no complaints? thats good of them and i am glad they are doing this but why wont they see this KDP situation in the same light? it is a much bigger deal. IT SERIOUSLY COULD AFFECT LONG-TERM DURABILITY BY F*CKING SOMEONE'S ENGINE, like mine.

sorry had to vent guys, i keep trying to get in contact with dodge to discuss this further with them. im sure i will have no luck but at least i will have tried.

Dusty,

The auto makers are quick to recall anything that affects safety. They have lost some big time law suits over those things. Other things that are expensive to fix and don't affect safety they try to duck. For example the automatic transmission cooler lines on our '95s were recalled if the truck was a gasser. Failure of the fittings could cause a fire. Not so on a diesel so the recall did not apply. If you have over 100K on your engine it's out of warrenty. The KDP is not a safety problem. They won't touch it.

Cummins doesn't warrenty this engines because Dodge buys them as is with no warrenty. If you had a Freightliner Cummins would fix it. No so with a Dodge. You are just flogging a dead horse with Dodge about KDP damage. Gonna have to fix it yourself.

One thing about the recal that is kind strange is the statement :

About 111,000 1997-1998 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups with diesel engines are being recalled to replace a fitting in the engine compartment. The fitting could corrode from road salt used during winter months in the Midwest, the automaker said.

They never say what it is or what it does. Makes you wonder if it is safety related as said by dcash.

All so the ones that lieves down south want get the recall becauce they don't use salt down here.

i did research the problem before contacting dodge. i know that dodge buys them without warranty to save $. i know in most cases it has not been a saftey risk when these KDP have attacked but how could it not be dangerous for a truck, at any given moment without warning, to have a pin fall out into the gears possibly in the gear case and oil to leak out all over the place possibly ruining your engine. what if i would have been on the highway at 75? they also say it only affects 4 or 5 %, but the 46,000 2002's is not 4 or 5 % and "long-term durability" is not a saftey issue. if anything they should warranty this problem and be glad that is is not more than the 4 or 5 % that they "claim" it affects. if cummins would waranty this in other applications i think dodge should too and i am going to attack them on this. as stated before i dont know if it will do any good, but i have to try because i dont know enough about it to fix it, i might have to but it will take me forever, and also i dont have thousands of dollars for dodge to fix it. like most im sure, my truck is a daily driver and i depend on it.

sorry, still venting:)
