Man you guys are hard on the Hemi owners.

A friend of mine back east here has a Flame Red SB standard cab Hemi driven 1500 he has installed a HUGE twin screw huffer and 2 stages of juice on. While we have some great running diesels on these vast diesel boards,I do not think there are too many that would make him nervous(exceptions being Jetpilot's bottle rocket if it stays together and MadDog's half breed).

One thing to know and if you ask any of the Hemi racers they all run by the same motto coined a while back by one of their own... ...

" There are 2 types of racers. Those who race Hemi's and those who wish they did!. "

The author of that poetic statement was none other than "Bullet Bob" Reed at E-Town a few years a ago... ... ... ... . Andy

Perhaps true - but hitch one up to 12,000 lbs of trailer, head it up over the Sierras or the Rockies, then compare economy of operation and engine life expectancy - we're talking TOTAL truck value and use here - not just the short-term quarter mile stuff!;) :p :D

Show me a 700+ HP streetable, running on pump gas... 5. 7L hemi that lasts 1/2 as long as a Cummins 6BT... .

600+hp on 'pump diesel' from a 6BT is a reality these days and is perfectly streetable and still has incredible longevity.

I used to be a hemi fan (the original 426cid)... . not anymore.

I'll always be a fan of Toyota 2JZ-GTE's... . that's about the only gasser engine I could ever give any respect.

Matt

Hammer - Thanks for sticking up for us Hemi owners. :D

Gary - If I wanted to hitch 12000 lbs up to something to drive over the Sierra's, or the Rockies, I would use my properly-valved, non-computerized CUMMINS, that's already sitting in my driveway. :D

YEAH, yeah, go ahead and rub it in... :) :)

My Turn to rub a bit too Jim...

Its obvious to me Matt that either one of two things has happened here for you to even suggest a off the wall remark like that.

1-While at Hovey's dyno rips you had inhaled way to much exhaust smoke for your own good and it did a brain fry somewhat similar to one too many bad acids trips.

OR

2-You NEVER have ridden in,driven or did anything but look at a real Hemi ride. If you did,and I'd all but guarantee this,You would have never made a comment like that. Is the air too cold in Cheese head land for you and did you experience a brain freeze we all don't know about.

And For Gary...

I'd have to agree with Jim here also. Those who I know didn't buy them for towing, they bought them for whipping the brand-x boys tails round here with their underpowered and over-matched trucks.

The Hemi legend lives... ... ... ... ..... Andy

No flames intended...hear me out.....

Andy: After driving a 10-second street legal pickup truck, and a 10-second street legal car... . both of which had turbocharged 6-cylinders... . I was a bit spoiled.

Until you've driven one... you wouldn't understand.

The old argument against a turbo-4 or 6 is the following: "Well, if you did that to a big block, then you'd eat that little POS/rice burner. "

That statement only comes from people who have not been on the other side of the fence... and are literally brianwashed into thinking the ONLY way to make power is with a big, heavy, outdated V8.

Trust me... . take a rip in a turboed 4 or 6 and you'll know what I mean. There is a replacement for displacement... . it's called technology.

I've taken numerous rips in 10 and 11 second Buick GNs and T-Types powered by 6s. The only Hemi that impresses me is the one in a friend of mines NHRA Top Fuel rail. Even my Wifes little front wheel drive Buick Regal 4 door with the Supercharged 3800 V6 runs high 13s in the 1/4 with just a few minor changes and still maintains 28 mpg. It only has $200. 00 in mods to do that. Technology is a wonderful thing. The Hemi trucks don't seem to run any different than a GM with the 5. 3 engine when they are both in the same style of truck.

A 10 second street legal car or p/u,why would you want to drive something so slow????.

Matt. .

I have been alot faster in door cars, street legal, both small and big blocks, sprayed and unsprayed, turbo'd and non turbo. While you mean well,I'll be honest here,I have no love for ricers and they do not impress me one bit. While technology may be the current craze,a turbo 4 or v-6 still doesn't have the same appeal to a true HP junkie. For outright brute force acceleration a fat block is the only way to fly. Its still remains the same today as it did back then... There is no replacement for displacement. Ask any of your big engine builders and see if they disagree.

Give me a Hemi,600-800 inches, lots of spray,a good back halved Cuda on 10" tires that will 60 in the low teens and let the ricer

annihilation begin... ... ..... Andy

BTW...

They do have a cure for brain freeze ya know... ... .

I've ran big block Buicks for years and I have friends that compete in the Outlaw 10. 5 classes with 4 second 1/8 mile cars but even they will tell you that it is amazing to watch the 8 second 1/4 mile and quicker Buick GNs at work that still look stock externally except for their stance. And they aren't using 800 cubic inches or Nitrous to get their. When you go to figuring up hp per cubic inch theres no contest. I don't personally care for the ricers but I have watched them run in the 6s in the 1/4 and a bunch in the 7s at NHRA events. I'll vouch for their performance but would never own one. I like my Big block that idles at 2000 rpm and shakes things for a block around it but I still watch the kids in the Suburus running in the 11s in the 1/4 pretty close on Friday nights. It's amazing watching a bone stock WRX STI rip off low 13s without being touched and with sub 2. 0 60 foots on top of that on street tires. But I'll take the Z06 Vette over the Suburu anyday.

I'm a technology fan. I work for Mercedes-Benz, I have to be. :D I think everything has a place. If you want to go fast in the 1/4 you can do either. Want to do it cheep, get a big block. Want to have a komakazie (sp?) little jap car that will run with it, you'd better show up with an Armored truck. You want to drive to the track, run a respectable time and tow the race car home, go with a Cummins. There's no replacement for DIESEL! :D

To each his own.

There's no sense in even discussing this any further. We're comparing apples to oranges.

Each is equally impressive in their own world... and both sides of the fence are allowed to enjoy what they like.

Besides, diesel power is the best of all.
