Buddy and I running with similar weight fivers. Past him doing 70 setting up for big grade ahead. He has a bombed Powerstroke with 4"exhaust, my '03 is still bone stock.

On the hill saw him slowly pulling up on me, then half way up he fell back. He was making more power than me, but redlined the EGT's and had to get out of it. :D

I'm now running the BFG 315/70/17's and pulling all the big grades at 2900 RPM and 58 MPH in fourth. Not bad for almost 22K gross and 4-5% grades. :D

Thinking back to the diesel shootout that pickuptruck.com did, something like this wouldn't have shown up in their short-distance tests. I wonder if this would be the case for a non-bombed PS as well.

jimance, what kind of milage are you getting pulling your toybox? I am only getting 8. 6. I have a 33 foot tahoe transport which weighs in around 13. 5k. You can also stand up in the bedroom so the front is high profile. I have about 4500 miles so far. My 97 bombed truck pulling my old fleetwood 33 foot toybox got 12-14 mpg, but it was a little lower profile in the front and about 1500 pound lighter. I have not pulled the new trailer with the old truck but am tempted to see if it would get better milage then the new truck. But the new truck drives and stops so nice and is so much quiter. The old truck was straight piped.

Mine is also a Tahoe 33. We have five quads inside!

My '99 and '03 got about 10-10. 5 MPG. However, since installing the big BFG tires it has dropped to about 9 MPG. :(

Is that taking into consideration that your speedo is off 6%. I noticed the same thing with the larger tires. I am impressed with the high MPG in the threads, I am only getting 13. 5 all around driving. Thats not towing though. I have a guy I know thats getting 23-24 on the open road with his new Chevy. Go figure?

That is corrected for a 9% decrease in tire RPM's.
