Im taking the jake exhaust brake out of my truck and im wondering what the name of the tool is that i need to take the pin out of the trucks computer plug so i can disconnect the wire. If anyone knows what I need and where I can get it please let me know so I can go buy it. Want to try and get it this weekend. Thanks.

Once you unplug the connector at the ECM, you can remove the lock on inside of the connector with a decent set of picks. Some care/caution here and you can use the pick to get the wire out of the ECM connector. Put the lock back on the connector. Seal the open hole where the wire was with a small dab of clear rtv, or use the factory rubber plug if you have it (better than the rtv) then plug it back into the ECM.

I have always used a set of picks and some care and had good luck that way.

Hope this helps,

Dave

The tool is called an "insertion/extraction tool". Most larger electronic supply houses will have them. They come in various sizes/configurations based on the type/size of the pins.

But you probably don't need the tool as Dave mentioned.

Miller Special Tools sells the set of tools but you will not get them this weekend. The Snap-On or other tool truck might have a universal set, but they will be expensive. Be very careful if you use a pick, and study a blank cavity so you can see how the lock tab for the terminal works. If you did happen to mess it up, the repair kit with connector and wires is $85 but available.

See if you can find an Aircraft Electrician or maybe an A&P Mechanic. They look to me like the red/white Amphenol insertion/extraction tool would work. They are plastic and should be cheap.
