From what I can find in my manual, it is a low vacuum warning switch to monitor output of the vacuum pump. If you lose vacuum, it lights the brake warning light in the instrument panel.
Just move it. No big deal. It's only held on with a couple of screws. I needed that space for a relay box so I moved it to just below the PDC where there was a little bit of room. It doesn't have to be level or anything like that. I don't remember for sure, but I think I extended the wires to the sensor electrical connection. It works fine moved. No need to put up with bogus idiot light that you would get if it was removed.
Everything still works if you remove it. I had a vacuum leak which illuminated the Brake/ABS lights at low idle. I just left it unplugged for a couple weeks until I found the leak.
