NAPA questions....

OK, gentlemen... . all of you seem to be getting all kinds of cools stuff from your local NAPA store... U-joints, lights, switches, 4x4 bars, etc... . I have been to 4 or 5 local NAPA stores and they have car parts only! The guys behind the counter are idiots and have NO idea what I'm asking about. Is there a special NAPA truck store that you all are visiting? What do I have to do differently?

I live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Every NAPA store I've been to carries all the stuff mentioned on this site. When they are out of stock or like in the case of my track bar, they order it out and I always have it the next day.

I've had a little trouble with truck parts from Napa also, but the reason is the lazy turd behind the counter. Find the part number you need from www.napaonline.com then give to the counter dude, best on the phone so you don't have to wait in line, most parts for our trucks will have to be ordered in anyways.

Looking at your profile, I am assuming that you are from Florida. Are trucks less popular there than in the northern areas? I wonder if they stock what they sell the most of.

Pick-ups are VERY popular here... . brand F is dominant. I even stopped and peeked thru the window (was a Sunday eve. ) of a NAPA store in Sebring that said "auto and truck parts" on the sign outside... . didnt look any different than any other NAPA store... . I was just curious if you Yankees were blessed with something better than our stores.

I have had good luck with Napa too. The counter guys seem more knowledable than Pep Boyz or Auto Zone. Its best to have a part # if possible. This can eliminate errors.

BCFAST, I manage a NAPA, email me what your looking for and your truck info and I'll get you the part numbers you need. Maybe then the autozone flunkies that are appearantly working in your area might can find them then

I was in a Autozone a few weeks ago to buy some basic tuneup parts for my 1958 Ford 841 tractor. Counter person told me that the name of the place was AUTOZONE and they didn't have parts for tractors! Went across the street to O'reillys; Their computer doesn't have old tractor parts, so the counter guy spent 5 minutes with his face in a parts book and found me everything I needed, and they were in stock. YES!

Thanks a ton, danandme!! That is very kind of you... . I have this nasty clunking in the front-end... seems to be worsening... when I hit a bump, a parking lot ramp-thing, and now even when I get on and off the brakes! Reading the posts, I'm guessing it's a track-bar... but lying under the truck it doesnt wiggle. . and the bushings dont appear to be dead... . any guesses? If it is the track bar, how about a part # and approx. price... ? Again, everyone here is the absolute best!!! Many thanks.

Hey Brian, you sure it ain't maybe just a loose bottom shock mounting bolt? Mine was working loose on the right front, giving a clunking noise over mild bumps... .

BCFAST: You can't really check the track bar without assistance. Get someone to turn the steering wheel back and forth while you are under the truck. If it's bad you will see the frame shift prior to the wheels moving. You may also see movement on the drivers side of the bar, if it's really bad.



Other source of 'clunk' type noise can be the axle u-joints.

BCFAST, the NAPA part number for your 97 track bar is 2724229. At our store it runs 197. 03 plus tax. Most of these stores are individually owned franchises, so prices will probably vary somewhat. Hope this helps.

If your track bar turns out to be bad, Lukes Links has a rebuilt kit that looks bulletproof, stronger than the OEM joint, and adjustable for wear. About 50 bucks to your door. I will try it when mine wears.
