Napa Valley

Many years ago, back in my Navy days, I spent a day or two up in the Napa Valley while in training at Mare Island. (Vallejo).



The wife thinks that she would like to see it too.



Seems to me that September would be a good time to visit there. School's in, less crowded? Nice weather that time of year too.



It would be a 3 to 4 day drive each way for us, so that would make a good excuse to finally break down and get that camper for the Ram.



Is September a good time to visit? And would the "la de da's" that run the valley allow a diesel in their midst?

I think I know where that is....

Napa Valley is near the Autozone Plains, kinda south of the Hi-lo Hills(now called O-Riley Hills). Is that right?



Sorry, I have always thought about this when I hear the name Napa Valley. Hope you enjoy the trip.

One of the jokes used to be that they make wine in the Sonoma Valley, in the Napa valley they make auto parts!



Seriousely, the fall is the time of the "crush".

Very busy time of year. The grass will be green in the spring. Go up before all the kiddies get out of school. Check out the wine train for a unique perspective. It leaves the Napa area and cruises up the valley with many stops along the way to browse. Always a plus to let someone else do the driving while wine tasting, hic:-laf

I think the "crush" is usually in mid to late October, not September (at least for red wines, IIRC. ) This would be the best time to visit, as you can see how the grapes are harvested and turned into the first stages of wine. Very cool! One way to find out for sure is to call the wineries you plan on visiting. Of course, the weather plays a huge roll in the harvesting and crushing timetable.

September could still be a bit warm. Spring is great. Not a wine drinker so I can't help out much



I live in Santa Rosa - Alexander Valley or something like that. Napa is two valleys over - Sonoma, then Napa. No problem driving the diesel around I do it every day. So does My6eatsV8s - he lived right off Hwy 12.



The KOA in Petaluma is a nice campground. The wife & I spent a month there waiting for our house to close.

miss the Christian Brothers and Mondavi wineries! Heck, they are all different and all good. Great place to have a romantic couple of days with the bride.
