Anyone have the xenon headlamps from NAPA the 9004BL bright lights. For the price I figured what the h... I'll try em. I'll be putting them in this weekend.

What's the wattage/cost. I have 80/100 from carparts. Around $10 each. They really light up the night. Especially with my hyper-white driving lights.

anyone know what the difference between xenon bulbs and those "hyper-white" bulbs. I'm not talking about those blue bulbs. The ones I see in the auto stores are stock (street legal) wattages.

I have the Wagner Xenon bulbs in my truck. I bought them at a farm and fleet supply for about $6 each. They are stock wattage but they throw light farther and brighter. The Xenon bulbs are quite a bit better than the OEM halogens.

I converted to the Sport lights on my 2001, and the light output is excellent. But that wasn't enough... So I added an HID 9007 conversion kit, and the light output is 3 times what is was before. 55W halogens put out 1,000 lumens of light, while the 35W HID system puts out 3,200 lumens. For those of you who don't know, HID stand for High Intensity Discharge. This is the system the newer BMW's and Audi's use. The bulbs do not use a filament to make the light, they use an arc of electricity instead. Email me for more details. #ad

Hey Evan the Cops bothered you yet about those?

Evan, where's a good place to obtain these lights? Actually, several Auto makers are going to these lights. Some day the Ram will probably have them stock.

Mike, I haven't had any problems with the police yet, and I doubt I will. It all looks stock. #ad

Check out http://www.suvlights.com (Phoenix Micro-Lite), and give them a call. Tell them I sent you. I dealt with several other outfits, and only Phoenix came through with the right product.

With HID, bulb placement is VERY important, due to the cature of the light produced. A lot of glare can result from improperly placed bulbs.

I recommend going to the Sport lights if you decide to upgrade to HID. This way, you still have high beams, and the light does not have to pass through a fluted lens--the Sport version is clear. I had to make my own wiring harness, which was a cinch to do. I used a standard 30A relay and wired everything with 16 gauge wire.

I will post pics soon! #ad

Evan, the 9007 lamp is the outer lamp in the sport headlight. Does this mean that the HID conversion works on both high and low beam? I was considering replacing the 9004s (the inner high beam lamp) with HID conversions that would only work on high beam. Maybe I'll go the other way!

Tommy,

Yes, the HID works on both high and low beam. I would avoid doing the 9004 kit for just the high beams... Reason being the HID ballasts are not designed to be turned on and off a lot. If you had them in the high beams, they would be coming on and off a lot as you flick the beam selector. I highly recommend that you do the 9007's... You will love it. Plus, the HID's don't have that obnoxious blue-beam look like the Asian kids have in their Hondas. #ad

Just a side note, the HID lights are not at full output until about 30 seconds after you turn them on. When they start, they produce a brilliant blue light, then it turns whiter as they heat up.

Thanks, Evan; that makes sense. That also means that they are repositioning the arc to switch between high and low beams. Cool technology. Will I see your truck at BD's Dyno Day?
Tom

HID is pretty cool. Not on my list of stuff to do though. Just thought I'd share, my mother recently had a light go out on her Mark VIII. I never messed with or even looked at an HID system until then so I thought I'd take a peak for her. The warning label said something like "To be serviced be trained technician only. Death or severe injury may occur". Good enough for me! The dealer charged $750 for a new "bulb". Good thing she bought that extended warantee!
