“Stop The Talk Diesel Dyno Day”

I think my truck is expecting

TMaas... . it's easy.

The Fat Kid has to much time on his hands. He's driving to Northwood. He's offering, you, me and Billy a ride. Common up it'll be fun!

Josh

PS, I may not be able to make it. I have a friend comming into town that weekend.

I was lost in the commotion between Andy and Will. :)

What's this I hear about Josh not going? :-laf :p

I marked my name down as gone for that weekend. So I can't say I have to work. ;)

Anyone have a way to record sound files, or a way to convert VHS tapes into digital video or sound? My truck has been giving off this mean idle lope lately. It really got my attention tonight! :D Seriously, it reminds me of those modified pulling trucks putting around in the pits at Muncie, except the smoke doesn't belch out each time it lopes. I'm hooked on these 12 valves. Might end up changing my mind and skipping the 3rd Gen after I get the 97 paid off. We'll see!! Oo.

BTW, I found some more things to add to my list. Just got my paycheck tonight, got a bonus this check too. :D Not as big though... ... . :(

TMaas, it's loping at idle? Are you running 370's and a GSK? What is your idle set to? My truck does that when it's cold. It started when I got the GSK/Goerends tight transmission. The idle was a touch low, so it was TERRIBLE, then I bumped the idle up a bit. Now it's still there when it's cold, but not as bad.

Josh

Affirmative to all of the above... ... Idle is too low when really cold, low when cold, but feels just right when warm. It was in the 40's for temp I would say tonight. Just something that i'll live with. The steering plays a part in the severity though. ;):D

Can't remember what the idle is set at..... Would someone please tell me the increments on the tach, under 1k RPM? No one has ever been able to tell me what the increments are, and I don't know what to guess... ... Who knows if the tach is right on these Dodge's anyways... ...

I've got the dreaded stutter as well, with the low idle. If I get on it when cold and quick let off, it will kill. I used to think it was fuel related, but I got that out of my system and will admit it is governor related. I don't think I would call it a stumble, as to get it mixed up with the DV stumble, but it is low idle-related.

My warm out of gear idle, I would say, would be about 950-975 RPM. Maybe a needle width to 1. 5 below 1k.

If anyone wonders why my posts are edited on this page, it's because I removed my sig to save space. I've been using quick replys, and for some reason after I post my sig doesn't show up but when I refresh the page my sig shows up. So I did a lot of editing just to remove my sig.

I think I'm gonna be able to make it over for dyno day this year, so count me in on the fun. There'll probably be about three other pickups coming up from the minot area, two other '01's and Andy Stroklund's old Ferd. All three of the dodges plan on running on the dyno. Looking forward to the 19th, get to meet some new people and see more Cummins power. See you guys soon.

Shawn

TMaas. I'd bump your idle up a little bit. See how that does. My truck did the same thing till I raised the idle. I've been told that DV's will help.

Josh

I'd say that the factory tach is a good enough guess. It's probably within 100rpm.

The low idle info should be on the CPL tag.

Anyone know if Mike's is a dealer for any other vendors besides SBC? I've got a vehicle that I have to hunt down, to please someone else. :)

Still undecided. Would like to... . I was basically holding out to see what other people are doing for lodging and like I posted earlier, what the trip up there consists of or what everyones plans were. Should we start a head count, or make a meeting place for those that are making the trip up there from down south here? I would like to hear more about the whole deal before I say yes or no. Lodging could be a deciding factor. :confused I'd like to save up for a new waste gate and a Water/Meth kit or a Hybrid. Would also like to dyno the truck with a working wastegate, so I have to know fairly soon so I can order one and install it by then. I don't know.

Jeff, what are your plans?

Should be a fun day....

Nice to see all the interest. If the weather holds this might be the largest gatheing yet. I think we might have better showing from ND trucks this time. I am still working a few more from down my way.

I am still wavering on GSKs in my truck. Was very tired of the idle rebound (bounce) I had with the 4 GSKs so I put the stock spring back in. Kind of neat running hard threw the gears and have your head hit the windshield on each shift because the govn defuels so hard and quick. I lost the idle bounce but I need just a little quicker fueling... . not neccessarily higher RPM fueling. Going to put the 3GSKS back in and leave the baby spring out. JohnE suggested pulling the shims under the large spring to help the idle bounce. When I first installed I have tried tighter, looser ect. When temps are below zero, and driving with a cold engine, it dies on every shift if rpms drop to idle... . no quick shifts at that temp. Idle set at 950.

See you all up there!

All,

I am probably out. Looks like I may be switching jobs (my choice) soon, and I don't want to make plans at the moment. I'll still be staying in the area, but if I give my 2-week notice, and they say bye-bye immediately, I may just have to take an extended vacation before going back to work! :D

I normally would stay up in Grand Forks. I don't work nights anymore. I just plan on staying the day instead. Hope to be there before noon. Is any chow in the works? Or should we just bring are own?

I plan on dynoing.

I'm thinking stacks again?? But I want 4 inch from turbo to the split. Then run 4'' stacks. Only when I have the dough first.

Chow....

John and I will make sure we have something to snack on before heading out. Probably something simple like sloppy joes, chips and pop. Most likely just a few bucks each will cover it.

Jeff... . I took my stacks off last summer and sold them to another member in IL. Even with heat wrapped pipes, two mufflers, insullation in the cab... . they were to loud!
