My 2001 HO is nearing 36,000 miles and will be out of warranty. Everything seems fine, but I'm freaking a little knowing that the warranty is almost up. Is there any suggestions as to what I should look for that might not be apparant??

Thanks.

My 36,000 mile warranty was up this week. I never had to use it anyway. The engine is warrantied for 100,000 miles. At 36,000 all you should be worried about is seeing better fuel economy!

The main thing I would look for is the status of the lift pump. Unless you install a gauge, you may never know it's dead or dying. It may or may not be covered under the 100k warranty so why take the chance. A Westach setup is less than $100 and well worth it.

here's what's wrong w/ mine

I would check the output shaft seal on the rear of the transfer case. Mine's leaking lightly at 27k. The rear cupholder doesn't work, and the inflate-a-seat switch works intermittently.

Check your rear axle seals. Check your exhaust manifold for the crack in the middle (but I think it is covered under the 100K engine warranty) Get it aligned and have a good front end man check all of the front end components. Have the transmission fluid changed and look for any problems. I would also change the fluid in the transfer case and make sure it looked OK. Depending on how much you tow you might also want to change the fluid in the rearend and check the fluid in the front end. If all of that looks OK you should be fine :)

Thanks guys, good advise. I had the truck in to the dealer a couple weeks ago for a coolant flush and I had them check the fuel pressure... they said it was fine 18psi.

Axle seals... . I assume you have to pull the brake drums?

I'll crawl under and look everything over.

Just called a real good alignment shop and the truck goes in there tomorrow. Never has steered very good and he said ball joints don't hold up very good either.

I would check the tracbar, mine just went @ 44k maybe yours is showing more wear at lower miles.

Also, check out your paint for thin spots and/or peeling. Already had to have one panel re-shot.

My trackbar was replaced at 34K, but at 50K with Bilstein shocks, my alignment guy says that my frontend is in great shape.

On my truck at 23k the top of the steering wheel is beginning to come apart from where I always keep my arm. I'd make sure yours is holding up. Also the center consoles are known to brake at the hinges and probably cost alot if you have to pay out of pocket.

Well, took truck in to a reputable front end shop and he said have the dealer replace ball joints, left tie rod end, and trac bar.

Also said Dodge front end is way under designed, never will steer really good and the parts are more expensive than other brands.

Hope the dealer will cover it. I'll let you know.

wyosteve,

Just had a lift pump replaced under warranty at 49000 mi, no problem. Thanks Parkway Dodge*****Birmingham, AL.
