It is difficult to see the built up oily dirt with the radiator in the truck. Pull the radiator and you will discover a real mess. Clean it and move the crankcase ventilation tube farther back. Your troubles will be over.

From what I have read the crankcase breather problem is only on the vp44 pumped 24 valve trucks. My breather tube dumps out low behind the axle far away from the radiator

What ever happened to those that purchased radiators from Griffin? I have thought about replacing my current radiator seeing it has a small leak on the side.

Thanks for the tip. I looked at the griffin and it is just shy of $600 and beautifully built out of aluminum. I looked around and can not find anyone that has posted their results with it though

Heatin Up

Traveling east of Las Cruces, NM on HWY 70 East over the Organ Mtns with a New radiator, new thermostat, new belt and new Fan clutch - I can only make 3/4 up the grade before the truck gets hot, and I mean hot! I have to pull over and let it cool down. Sounds like the same situation, not enough cooling.

My truck is a 98. 5 24 valve and has "always" heated up when pulling a 5th wheel up steep grades like the one I mentioned.

Wooter I am going to have this thing fine tunned by a shop that specializes in these trucks and see how it acts after that but if it still gets hot pulling the grades this summer I will be doing a radiator. If I do I will let you know what the results are

I am the one that put together a group buy several years ago on the Griffin radiators. So far they all are still working perfect except for one guy developed a problem about a month ago and is sending it in for repair.

I am still very happy with the results, IMO a modified truck will need the extra cooling but don't bother with the intercooler I don't think it helped a bit.

Do you guys have your A/C running full blast when your truck overheats going up these grades? That'll help things get toasty pretty quick.

It gets over 120 degrees here in the summer and some of the grades last for 20min or more. With 2 small children we run the air as much as we can in the summer. We have had to turn the air off many times on grades and turned the heater on a few times to make the top of the grade. We actually only had to pull over once which is once too many for me

You are correct about your truck. The 98 vents on the drivers side of the engine and does not cause the type of problem that your truck can.
