My 96 came with the trailer tow package. It has the 7 pin connector at the rear bumper. I have been having trouble with lights and brakes on trailers. I got to looking at truck yesterday and found that I have some wires corroding at a connector about 12" behind the 7 pin connector. There are two factory connectors at this point and it is the big 4 wire connector is where the problem exists. My local dealer said there is no repair pigtails available. He did say there is the 7 pin connector kit available for $90, which should include one side of the connector. My problem is on the truck side, which goes into the main wiring harness. I am thinking about calling a salvage yard or wiring in a 4 pin weatherpack connector. Any one have any other ideas? Thanks.

I rewired mine by cutting everything off that came with the truck and wiring in a small round plug, large plastic plug and a 4prong trailer plug. That way, I don't have to search for adapters or anything. It wasn't difficult, took about 2 hours and everything works good. If you have some patience to lie on your back and redo everything, it is worth it if you pull a trailer. Also do a search on the internet for your correct colors and how to wire up each recep if you don't know, there are several trailer places that have wiring diagrams.

I would do what MAllen suggested, just cut the connector out and wire directly. I suggest soldering the connections if you have the tools and time.

Same Here

Here's a post I did on this a while back.

When I did mine I went to an RV dealer and got a piece of the 7 conductor wire that they use for trailer plugs. I soldered and heat shrinked all of the connections, then put a big piece of cold shrink filled with shoe goo around the bundle of connections. While I was at it I spliced a second piece of wire in and put a plug in the side of my box for goose neck and fiver plugs.

Part of owning an old (paid for:D) truck I guess.
