My 03 with 75hp sticks has went to running higher egt than it did a couple of months ago. It only happens when pulling lq horse trailer. I am seeing 1350 on grades that I never saw above 1275 before with cruise set at same speed.

Only think i can think of that might be going on is wife was out at a show and in rough pasture and dislodged the fuel supply line where the quick connect from the metal to rubber line occurs. She made it home but claimed she had no power and that the truck was smoking bad when she would accelerate. When she got home she shut truck off and it wouldn't start back. When I realized it wasn't getting any fuel I tracked it down to the dislodged fuel line fixed and has run fine since.

My thought is that this problem might have sooted up the stock muffler enough that with its normal age and miles my be causing a flow restriction thus the increased egt. Does this sound plausible?? If so I know that I could put a test pipe in place to check but I really don't want to listen to the drone while pulling trailer for 6 plus hours. Whose after market muffler will help. I dont think I want to drop the coin on a full turbo back exhaust If I don't need to.

First clean the pyro prob and make sure it is reading correctly. Second I wound clean or replace the air filter. Then I wound worry more about soot build up on the exhaust turbine blads of the turbo and clean that with carb cleaner or something like it. If you don't want to clean the turbo, load her up heavy and give her a good tow. Last replace the exhaust.

Replace the muffler with a good flow one from any exhaust shop to see if it maybe fell apart inside. You can't soot it up and plug it.

What could have happened if the turck was down on pwer and smoking you could have a dirt pyro probe causing the readings. Clean it and see if it makes a differnece.

Whats the best way to clean the pyro probe. Just clean it of with a rag or use like brake cleaner on it. How about the electrical connection ends on the pyro probe cable to i need to take them apart and clean the them and put the back with a little dielectrode grease on them.

That should work and help make sure everything is making contact and reading correctly.

Yes I am aware the the bigger stick would raise the EGT but this is something new They have been in the truck for over 6 months so I have a very good set of data of where they should be while pulling the trailer over some identical conditions and sections of road.

I haven't had time to clean the probe yet and to change the air filter yet however the air filter only has about 7500 miles of highway driving on it. I hope it is not just because it is warmer outside. It has gotten where if the cruise is set at about 72 while pulling the lq horse trailer tha the egt will get over 1350 just crossing an intersate river bridge that before 1100 was highest I had seen on it. Not to mention what happpens on real grades.

Do you have a boost gauge? If so, is the boost lower? That will cause higher EGT. Check the boost air connection hoses at the turbo and intercooler. Is the radiator and intercooler fins clean?

OK I have now removed and cleand the egt probe it a soot on it but not what I would call excessive. I have installed psm mode on my air box and changed to new air filter from mopar the one like what is in the 6. 7's. Clean radiator, intercooler, condenser, and Trans cooler. The truck's egt still gets to hot to quick. It is running about 75-100 degrees hoter all the time when it is loaded. My next step is to try a muffler eliminate pipe and see if it helps.

Am I missing something else?

I thought while cleaning the egt probe that maybe the exhaust manifold has heat warped not sure thoght. I my mind I wonder if it has done that if it would cause the exhaust flow to be poor and thus increased temps.

Intake horn might help a little. A smarty Jr will drop egt for you a bit as well. HE 351 turbo will drop it too. Your boost should hit at least 26 psi.
