2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Need a little help...

I just sold my second 12 valve on saturday. . I just had knee surgery for the 3rd time and im tired of not being able to drive my manual transmission trucks. .



Ok so i sold a 96 for $10,500 and in the same day found a 99 ex. cab 4x4 auto with 193,000 on it thats bone stock for $7,500. this seems to good a deal. Please let me know some real problems to look for on the 24 valve. I know about the auto transmission not being that great, or so i have heard. I know the vp44 problems too, im not to worried about this as i will be swapping for a p pump. . is there anything else i should look for, or what would some of the symptoms for those be. . Im leaving in the morning to go look it over so anything will help. Oh and the truck has never pulled anything except 2 harleys. .

LOOK for the "53" stamped on the block at the pan under the wiring loom below the powersteering pump! No 53, no problem. expect to do a radiator,trans,lift AND injection pumps, brakes soon if they've not been done recently. If the turbo/intake is a golden or brown color or the exhaust spacers are blue then the motor has seen ALOT of heat and may have cracks in the head. Otherwise the usual stuff like rust. good luck!!

Oh, and make sure the whole front steering assembly is good. Check all tie rod ends, expect to repair or replace the drag-link. make sure ball joints are good. Otherwise, if it doesn't wander like a drunk hooker down the road, you should be good. I second everything that DCreed said.

well, since you've had 96 before this, I'm sure you know where to check for rust too. Another thing thats different on the 24v is the breather tube comes outta the cap on the pump gear access hole in the timing cover. From the factory they came with a little "puke" bottle on the end of it, and the fan usually sucks all that oil residue up, blows it all over the radiator fins and the front of the engine. Some trucks, the bottles even missing. Alot of guys just extend the tube back behind the front axle. But plan on taking the radiator out and washing it off real good.
