i am going to rebuild my nv5600 but i cant seem to find a 5600 specific service manual and it isnt in my factory service manual, or should i send it to blue menthals

It's not in the '03 factory service manual? I just checked my '04 manual and the 5600 rebuild chapter is in there. Chapter 21. page 88

I just did mine a couple of months ago. It wasn't as bad as it is made out to be except the weight of the parts. I bought some special tools that didn't get here till after I was done. I made a deep well socket for the nut on the out put shaft, and the end play is really critical. For the specs you'll need, I just asked the guys here on TDR and they just threw them at me as I needed them. Take a bunch of pictures of the linkage you will need them. Buy the tool for lowering the two shafts in at the same time or make one. It will make assembly easier. I also threw together a bench that let me get around it. The out put shaft will have to stick through the bench because the trans is done while standing on it.

Mine was on the top shaft, there is a cone bearing between the input shaft and output shaft (not the 6th gear bearing). I think this bearing doesn't get enough oil. We made some mods to help that a little. But what took the bearing out was what I think was my fault. I had a S. J. and with that I had the power to pull hard in 6th when I should have been down shifting. 6th gear loads this bearing harder than any other gear. 5th gear is direct through the trans and can deal with the power. Should have 410s also. What's worse is I know better, I just got lazy. I make this 2500mi run once a month. Towing 16 to 18k at lest 50% of the time I have a gooseneck hooked to it 90% of the time. I tell my customers if you make your living with your truck leave it alone I just didn't take my own advice. I put it in there for the mpg. But if you got the power you will use it. Yes you will... :-laf

That's good to know. I do the same thing ~ I run the TST at 2/3 towing my TT over the nearby mountain pass and don't bother downshifting even though I know I should. Next time I'll take your experience as a lesson and shift down.

Thanks,

Scotty

i sank mine in a river, then filled it with the wrong oil and immediately lost some synchros, oil is full of brass, plus i have 72000 miles of extreme abuse on it, so i will rebuild it before i lose the core.
