I hadn't mentioned it until now but i need a spare for the 92, what will work and where might be a place to get one, junkyard etc...

any info is greatly appreciated, i have only had 2 flats in my entire life and both were here at home, guess im lucky anyways just for piece of mind i need that extra tire in case it does happen.

Well the salvage yards may be your only bet. I bought a beater that had a ford wheel (8 hole) and it seemed fine. If you were close I have several. The Dodge wheel is a bit different. You might consider aluminum wheels. They dress out the truck quite nicely. That would give you four spares. The later years may not work on the aluminum. A friend of mine got four tires and wheels but (alum) wheels would not mount. (Obstructed by the caliper)

I will see what i can track down, it might be that the truck i retrieved the tag light lenses off of might have the spare on it, it is a 90 so i wouldn't think they would be different.

thanks for the info

please correct me if I am wrong but all 8 bolt wheels from chevy, ford and dodge will interchange. When ford brought out the super duty they went to a metric bolt pattern that wont work and I think with the new aluminum wheels there might be a clearence issue on the calipers and the rear drums. But I think any thing up to the early to mid 90's will work. agian please correct me if I missed something.

they probably will, im going to track one down. I know the tires i run in the winter on my '00 they are the house trailer steel wheels, they are 8 lug and they will fit a ford as that was what my dad used them for on his F350

Most of the older Dodge and Ford 3/4 ton wheels will work, but the Chevy wheels have a smaller center hole, and won't fit over the rear hub. Watch out for the 16. 5 wheels though.

I was at Chesterfield Auto Parts in Richmond today, and they had a late

80s D-350 gasser with single rear wheels !!! Anyway, it had 4 wheels in

the bed with decent tires on them. This place is self-service, and located

on Rt. 60 on the west side of Richmond. They get 21. 99 for 16" wheels,

and 21. 99 for 16" tires.

Bad rims

I found a set of 8 bolt 16" rims I believe were off a heavy chevy van, Turned out they had 5/8" wheel studs where our ctd's run 1/2"studs. After my second wheel came right off the truck while driving I found out this error. Live and learn. I have recently purchased new steel 6. 5"x16 for $125 each. Better deal than some junkyard rim you know nothing about.

I've bought 4 junkyard steel rims at different times ... all supposedly fit the truck as they were from Dodges. One had to small a center hole so that one went back. Of the 3, one ended up having worn out chamfers and it never really seated good on the hub and wobbled a bit so that one eventually found the dumpster (after being on the truck for a year). So I'm 2 for 4 on JY rims.

Then after watching the TDR classifieds I scored a set of 4 from a TDR member who lives relatively close.

For some reason these steel rims get bent easily... had 2 I got rid of because of that... must be the Ct roads... .

I worked at a tire store just out of high school. The dodge rims were easy to bend, I seem to recall it having to do with the way the edge was shaped. The bead breaker would catch it and push the wheel. Plus, I think they are a little flimsy to begin with. I like the Ford wheels by Accuride.
