Need A Vin To Purchase Parts Help

hey in the middle of a transmission swap from 48re to g56, the county code enforcement stuck a nice sticker on my truck and a 30 day notice on my door. I am now down to 28 days that i have left to finish this swap and get the vehcile tagged and inspected. a diesel performance shop burnt me and didnt tell me I had to get my truck inspected over a headlight and so DMV suspended my registration and my tags were taken.





What i need from a member of TDR is a VIN number on a similar truck to mine with exception to a NV5600 manual transmission on their 2004. 5, so that i can order proper parts for my truck. yes it says I am installing a g56 but i those only came in 06. The parts lady cant look up proper parts without a VIN. if you have a truck with these factory installed options I would like you to PM me your VIN number so that I can use it to order parts now and in the future. this is not a scam legally i dont know of any crimes that can be commited using your vin number but your welcome to check my criminal record. I will be getting a sticker made to put in the lower corner of my windshield stating "FOR PARTS USE VIN XXXX" this will only be used in the event the truck rarely might see a service facility. right now the parts lady needs a VIN to find parts suchas steering column, floor console and all parts to it, wiring harnesses, computer reflash to a manual transmission truck from aftermarket if i can, clutch pedal assembly and related parts to make this swap work.

i know asking for a VIN with these Facotry installed options sounds rediculous but it would make wiring harnesses and interior pieces easier to find. It also may sound rediculous to do the swap in 28 days but I already have the transmission and had already started the project a while ago. manual trans is something I wanted for lots of reasons. I have alot of money already spent towards the swap and I am really at the point of no turning back. Please help.

you should only need the last 9 of a VIN for the dealer to look it up. and they dont have on on the lot?

oh please dont not try to convince me or ask why not run a race prepped 48re. I burnt 1 stocker and 2 race prepped ones last year. there may be better out there for 8 grand but I dont have the money to TRY it and it burnt up. the manuals are tough low maintenance, dont get hot on beach, exhaust brakes are plentiful, plus I already sold almost everything associated to the 48re off my truck so I refuse to look back.

Whatever service history you put under that VIN would also affect the service history of the "donor" vin truck. Even worse if the person that gave you a vin number still had warranty. You void the warranty for that VIN number with your rig, the other person is screwed. Not to mention anything else that ties to a vin number like vehicle registration, all kinds of things that could go wrong there, i. e. accident or anything else that would cause title problems.



Again, no offense, but no way in heck I would take that risk, even if you were on the up and up otherwise.

All he needs the VIN for is to make it easier to look up part #'s. There is nothing reported to anybody that parts were sold related to that VIN #. Do you know for a fact the warranty would be void or just guessing? If I could help him I would. No offense, but I don't think you know what you are talking about.

Whatever service history you put under that VIN would also affect the service history of the "donor" vin truck. Even worse if the person that gave you a vin number still had warranty. Yeah, what he said. If I had a truck with the specs he needs I'd gladly give the vin. Dodge dealers want a vin number to ensure that the correct parts get ordered. There will be no harm done whatsoever to the donor truck. I've done this on several occasions with several different trucks and never a problem.

How is the VIN for a NV5600 truck going to help you get G56 parts?

interior pieces is the main reason second reason is so i can buy wiring harnesses to have a starting point to lengthen/shorten to mate to the G56

NO warranty will be voided. I will be going to office depot and getting a label maker. you know the black letter on white background, ones that people put on their instrument clusters to warn their other drivers diesel only. The original VIN for my truck will remain Riveted in place and in plain view. the original VIN is also everywhere on the truck.



Also i would need a state issued title to mess with somebodys registration and such. My truck also rarely sees the dealership. I refuse to take it to shops unless i absolutely have to. right now i have been working on the OTHER 04. 5 for the past few days out in the 30 degree weather plus wind and some snow and still no progress and nowbreaking out the torch to get to the part after making tooling that doesnt yet exist and such just to get to the part. I HAVE BEEN BURNT AT SHOPS OVER AND OVER AND I REFUSE THEM.

somebody who understands and who has been there thanks for chiming in. Now anyone got a VIN or do i give my 29,000 dollar truck plus 15 grand I have put into it to the county have towed away and scrapped??? this is TDR somebody out there can surely help i wish they would.

i look at ebay all the time. the dealer lot the average twice a week i am there to order parts for the other mopars(1999 durango, 2004 jeep, 2004. 5 ram, 2nd 2004. 5 ram, 2003 dakota)

If I were a criminal and I know where you keep your truck and get your VIN, I can take the VIN to the dealer, get a key cut, and take your truck. Anyway, I feel bad you're in a situation like that. Is there another place you could put your truck while you get things done?

I do not know what the hassle is about giving someone a vin number. Every car and truck since the 1990's has the vin clearly visible through the front windshield. If it was as simple as getting a vin and going the dealer for a key I don't think they could build enough jails to hold all the auto thieves. Plus you could have my vin and a key from the dealer and it still would not run because the key chip would not match the truck computer. I needed a vin to order some parts for my 2004 and several members piped up with a vin. The parts guy needs this to find the right parts in the catalog-nothing more. How it would be possible to go from there to a warranty problem is beyond me.

I called 2 dealers here for parts when I was doing a srw to dually swap. I needed the nuts that hold the front wheel spacer on. Guy said he can't look up without a vin. I told him have a 2500 srw so if I give you my vin it won't show the spacers & nuts. He said I don't care - I need a vin to help you! I said what about you guys. Don't you have any vins of a dually in stock? He said what’s a dually!!! I ***** you not!!!!!!!!!!!!!



THIS IS NUTS!!!!! How retarded did we get that we can't look up parts without a vin number? I worked in a parts store for a number of years, and if the whole world would go this route we'd be in a heap of trouble!



I ended up finding a dealer willing to look it up WITHOUT a vin. Just different screens he said. So..... the first two guys are either lazy, stupid, ignorant, or all of the above.



Makes me wonder where this world is going with respect to service orientated businesses.

Read what I typed again, I didn't say anything regarding part orders, rather his mention of potentially using the Vin for future service.

On the other hand, I will agree my post was not worded the best and came accross rather overdramatic on potential issues. Still not sure I would want my VIN used that way, wouldn't be the first time a dealer screwed up with information either (in the event of future service performed using the donor VIN), even if the user is on the up and up. I could care less if someone strictly used mine to ORDER parts, I agree there would be no issues with that.

Not to start a peeing match, but I don't see the security issue with giving out your vin. Its printed and available for everyone to read right there on your dashboard. If someone wanted a number just walk thru a parking lot or dealer lot. And just as someone above said its listed on most e-bay autos that are listed for sale.



I guess this is the same debate as covering up or blocking your license plate when posting pictures of your car/truck on the net. What is the difference? I see hundreds of cars/trucks with license plates everyday when i drive to work. What makes it different on the net????

Again, my comment isn't about giving it out, it's specifically about someone trying to use it for service and the POTENTIAL of that history going on your trucks VIN service history. Maybe a problem and maybe not.



Obviously the original poster in this thread thought it could be an issue, otherwise he would not have clearly indicated "This is not a scam" in bold print in his original post.
