The pump died on the 01. 5 a few weeks ago. I have been out of town more than at home and I haven't had time to work on it until today. I grabbed the old '77 Dodge van with only 275,000 miles on it for transportation.

I spend most of my time in central Mexico. I have checked down here and pumps ARE available... only takes a month to get them and cost a mere $2500!!! I passed! I'll go to the border and get one!

Do any of you know of a place with a good price on a pump? I plan to keep the old pump in hopes of trading it for a new Chrysler pump... the truck is still under guarantee. I figure that with the price of a core charge, it would go a long way toward just buying a NEW pump. I can always use the old pump to trade in on another pump later... I plan to keep a spare on hand!

I am quite familiar with the McAllen, Texas area. I would prefer businesses in that area or who could ship quickly to that area.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Only a few dealers in Mexico can work on the Diesel. The diesel is not available as an option down here. They are all a long way away. That would mean towing the truck using a Mexican towing service. They are famous for doing things like stealing your good tires and replacing them with "skins" and then swearing that the truck is just the way they received it. I have seen them damage other power train parts during the tow as well as adding dents. I fear it would cost more to repair the damage than pay for a pump!!! Besides, would you trust your truck to a mechanic who used vice grips to do an oil change? I have seen it done to almost new vehicles down here by the dealership!!!

My other option would be to take it to the border and have an American shop do the work. I would have to build a tow bar for it and pull it behind my old van or again use a Mexican tow service. Then, if I get there and they don't like something, they can void my warranty and charge me RETAIL for parts and labor. I think this is the way with the least risks.

Where I bought the truck up in Illinois they are good guys who are willing to work with me. However, they can not get a pump for me without the truck in their shop. I plan to take them the truck and original pump with hopes of getting another pump from them. If I am going to keep a spare pump, I'll have to pay for IT anyway.

It is a different world down here!!! It isn't a bad place to live, but you have to adapt your American way of thinking to survive!
