What is your DEF use rate in miles?

I am looking to purchase a used 2007 Dodge 3500 with a 6.7. They say that the EGR has been deleted. While I have no problem with that, I have to have an operational EGR system to pass inspection in my state. What does it take to restore it? What does it cost and where to get the parts? Would appreciate any advice

Does the seller have the EGR parts that they removed? Did they disable the system themselves or did they purchase it that way? Are they willing to reinstall the deleted parts? Without seeing exactly what was done on that truck, it is hard for us to know what is needed to pass your state emissions.

Personally, I would insist that the truck was fixed and passed inspection before you purchase it and not after. You very well could be stuck with a truck that you can't register or inspect until you get that system working correctly and dropping thousands in additional costs.

As you probably know, these early emissions were problematic and caused poor fuel economy which is why they are commonly deleted. People often sell the removed parts on Craigslist or Ebay. Also make sure the EGR wasn't just unplugged instead of removed. Many people would just unplug the EGR valve rather than remove it and leave the DPF in place. Check to see if the DPF is still there. If not, you will to have a DPF and other exhaust components reinstalled and the ability to return the delete tune back to stock.

Thanks for the replies. I have some good news. The dealer is going to restore it back to original. He said that Dodge has an upgraded Cooler package that he is going to install. He said he would guarantee that the truck would be right. I am going to get the truck

A friend just came back to a CTD, after getting rid of his 5.9, he got a new F350 gasser and was miserable. Now he has a similar 6.7 and is happy again. Now he has the learning curve you’re going through.

I’m going to flip the question, can you plug the EGR or unplug the servo motor with stock tune? Although I have EFILive, my smog is intact and is tuned for it.

Thanks

You’re talking about just shutting it off? Doubt it, and especially without getting a light at some point.

light12pdr I forgot to ask what state you are in. Here in PA, there is not official diesel emissions testing. However, the emission control system has to be intact and pass "visual inspection" when the vehicle goes in for it's annual inspection.

One of my close friends owns a garage/inspection station here and is a stickler about going over a diesel when it comes in. He gets out the book from PA and goes through the required checklist. I've been there working with him when a customer comes in with a deleted truck and he will not pass it. The owners get really upset with him, but he just isn't going to risk losing his inspection license or a fine for a $25 inspection. I know that other garages around the area are now doing the same. The days of being able to slip a deleted truck through here are definitely coming to an end. I know that there are places that still will pass one through, but those are now few and far between.

My guess I've restricted the flow to about 50%, The 1/2 Holes size threw codes , 9/16 has been good for 3.5 years, I will be inspecting the soot build up again next month, Last years it was just a film on the walls, the EGR Valve was sooted and I just cleaned that, the Cross Tube was the same as the intake just a film. My MAP sensor had only a film of soot also very pleased with this.
