Just had the transmission redone with DTT stuf and 89% TC. TST 230 -605 plate installed. I also had the timing set at 15 1/2 degrees as recomended by Bill K. My problem is, the torque converter is much tighter than the stock one and is not letting RPMs go up quickly enough, when taking off from a dead stop. When I mash the throttle the truck reacts very slow, (for about 3 seconds), until the turbo comes in, then WOW! I am worried that I will have trouble going up a steep incline with my trailer in tow because of this. When I power brake it the max rpms I get up to are 1300. Do you think this is a valid concern or not?

Can you give me any advice on reducing the turbo lag that I am seeing?

well.....

from a dead stop take off this may not help but there is a turbo wrap accessory from thermo-tec that says it helps stop turbo lag and keeps the spool up between shifts( more for a standard) works for me!

for your application the fuel delivery (AFC) can help when you find that sweet spot in its adjustment , more fuel will help spool time to a point, the tst medium and light spring and ALL of the afc housing adjustment can be fun if you like to tinker.

other than that a smaller exh housing, lower gears,or just power brake it a bit from a dead stop to spool it up a bit, if the convertor will let you with out the tires breaking loose. :D

p. s. oh yeah , where the plate and governor springs&lever are(set) can help too.

What you need is more hp. I am not kidding. When I had my Dunrite converter installed, the lag was pretty bad with the TST #8 plate. I changed to a #5 and it got a little better. Then I added 370 injectors and it disappeared. Playing with the AFC will also help. I would go with either DD2s or 3s or 370s and bet that your lag problem would disappear or be very minimal.

No Problem

The only time you should have it is from a dead stop but do this test, Do a slight power break say to 1200 RPM for a few seconds then let off the break and roll into the throttle and see how it is like that. Once your up and moving the EGT's will be higher and it will spool fast, on mine at cruise EGT's are at 600, mat it and it goes from 3-4 PSI to 36 fast, if I have it unlocked via unlock switch(dimmer switch) it does this in about a second and I have a 16cm housing which makes it worse.

I had the EXACT same problem as you have when I

installed my new "low stall" Pro-Torque TC in my 96'

Dodge CTD.

Thanks to "Koa Man" (who posted above) I also installed

the 370 Diamond B Marine Injectors and my "lag" problems

were GONE!! He failed to mention that to you cause he

doesn't like me anymore!! But as he said we both were

able to eliminate the problem with the 370's.

Piers Harry at "Piers Diesel" can send you a set of these

for about $300. 00. They will REALLY wake your truck up!!

His phone number is: 1-866-888-9396.

Hope this helps!

You are darn right I don't like you anymore. :D Especially after you went and upped your hp to 500+ If I ever make it back to NC you have to give me another ride in your truck. Take care buddy and keep me updated on how the B1 is working for you. I may need to get one in my vain attempts to keep up with you.

I can also confirm that the 370HP injectors will take care of the bottom end lag. I can make 15 psi of boost by 1200 rpm and about 20 at 1300 even though I am running the 14cm turbo housing. With the stock 215hp injectors it was more like 1700 or 1800 before I could get much boost at all.

First, call Bill, he will be able to explain in detail how to make adjustments to the AFC housing and spring.

As KOA MAN stated, the 370 will improve low-end tremendously, and it’s well worth the cost.

Thanks for posting buddy!!

I was wondering if that would "get your attention!"

I will definitely take you for another ride if you ever

get out here again! So far, the B-1 is working well!

Still have not been able to get on the dyno to compare

the #s to Piers' HX-40, but will e-mail you when I do.

Take care Wes!
