ok I,ve had it. the ecm freaked out and it won't charge. so i came on here and learned about the external regulator. first regulator charged at 16v, so di the second. I went to a starter shop and bought a regulator that was adjustable. after a few adjustments we were good. well that was about 2 months ago. The adjustable regulator gave up the ghost last night. I didn't like the way the lights surged with that regulator, so I'm looking for a reliable internaly regulated alt. I didn't findthe correct thread about this, but I'm sure another TDR member has already done this. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. This truck is a 97. I also will be doing a 12v swap this summer and want to put a tach in that old truck. So being able to hook a tach onto it would be a plus. thanks in advance

When you find one I would like to know as I would like to build a gas powered battery charger. Motor, internal regulated alternator, = a battery charger (I think).

most any delco alternator should work for you, since you will probably be building everything from scratch. I was looking for one that will fit the existing brackets on the engine and had the right amperage. Thanks for replying if I get an answer I will make sure and share the info
