Here is the meat of the email I received from dodgeparts.com today.

"The engine control module is R5083997aa and costs $1119. 60 plus a $200. 00 core. Which you would be responsible for shipping back to Washington state".

I also have purchased from auto computer. I checked all over the place and could not find one from a dodge house for under 1000. 00. My local dealer had a price very close to dodgeparts.com and then as stated above you still had to pay to have it programmed. So I went with Auto Computer. The first one they sent me was not correct. My truck would barely run and threw all kinds of codes. I called them and they sent me another one no questions well except for whats the problem with it. It came in less than 48 hours. I was pleasantly suprised about that. The second one is working fine.

I've got one for a S. O 99' with a five speed. The only two problems I see is if you have an automatic, the second is that you have an 02 model. If it's just the model change, I believe it'll work w/a pcm change. If you have an automatice, I would look for an O. E. M pcm. Last thing, have you called a Cummins dealer. I know it'll be higher, but, that's where the pcm's come from.

My ECM threw alot of low voltage codes. (Low voltage at the apps, at this, at that..... ) I was in no position to do anything myself so I took it to a cummins repair shop and they diagnosed it for $300. Not cheap, but I at least knew what it was. They loaned me an ECM to try and it worked great except that I had no cruise control. (It was for an auto transmission and the cruise workes different between trannies) They offered to sell me said ECM for $600 (without re-flashing, they said I should just drive it with no cruise) before I found AutoComputer Exchange through someone on here. It might be worth the gamble if you don't have the diag. equipment to check things out yourself. Or, you could pay cummins $300+ to verify.

Looks to me that there is a pattern here :eek:

Most of the ECM's that are failing Are 01 and O2 dodge trucks :eek:

Looks to me to be a problem :{

Not looking forward to it :eek:

Kind of scary considering that one "guru" calls this a rare occurrence in the newer 24V trucks!

On the bright side..... I got my truck back today, with a different ECM, and all is well! Starts up after it is hot, no codes and performs great!

Thanks for all the info and support. I really appreciate it.

Cheers!

I lost my wait to start light & pump pre start run, dealer saved the ecm with a reflash, It was done on an older smarty exchanged ecm. I purchased the new revo smarty but it won't load. I also get a 1693 & 1694 code. I think in spring a buy another ecm. Anyone else with the same codes? what was your fixes?

Just to let all know the ECM from autocomputerexchange arrived today. All problems solved. Starts at the first bump of the starter and do not need to wait for the WTS light to go out.
The old unit has to go back for warranty and also to avoid an extra $100 core charge. No problem here as I don't need a broken unit anyway. No freight charge on the return either.

Thanks to all for your help.

Most of the problems with an ECM or PCM is a bad connection at the computer before you buy a new computer get a can of electronic cleaner from Radio Shack and spray the plugs on both the ECM and PCM (3) conn. that has fixed all of the problems I have had with the ECMs and PCMs on the Dodge.
