2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Need an opinion on tires and rims

4wheelparts.com is having a sale on wheels and tires and the ones I'm looking at getting just happen to be included in that sale As my sig. states, I have an 02 quadcab/8ftbed with a leveling kit. I'm not sure on the name of my factory paint, but its a light almond color (kinda a goldish/tan color) with black tube steps. I'm looking at possibly a set of the American Racing Mojaves w/Teflon wheels in 16x8 and BfGoodrich All-terrains in 285/75 (33in. ). Do you guys think that color wheel and size tire will look good on my truck? Should I go with a 16x10 wheel? And what is the bolt pattern on our trucks? 8X6. 5? I'm looking at $1446 for all 4 with free shipping. Can I do better someplace else? Sorry for all the questions guys. I'll see what I can do about getting a pic of my truck if that would help.

I'd like to go with something black or like a gunmetal gray unless you guys think chrome or polished would look better.

All Rams are 8 on 6. 5"..... Choice of rims is like choice of paint, every one is different. I like them all. A 10" rim will stick out of the fender A LOT. Not only b/c of the width but also the back space. Get some 20s I just happen to know some one with a set for sale

sorry man, I'd consider it, but anything bigger than 17" just doesn't suit my taste Any yeah, thats why I was thinking of going with the 8" wide rims

Well, since you asked, I'm kind of like a pack rat... I like shiny things! A set of polished chrome would look great with your paint. If you go with 10" wheels, check your local laws. The last time I checked, Montana made you put mud flaps on anything that protruded 4" past the body of the truck. Height from the ground is also a consideration with regard to the mud flap law. Yeah, I know, but I like to be different I'm actually leaning towards something with a gloss black center, polished outer lip, and chrome center caps... I think that would look half desent

That's the look I love too... . I just bought a set of full polished 20s and I'm having the centers powder coated gloss black. I think it will look great on my black 02.

yeah, the newer factory wheels crossed my mind, but tires to fit 17" rims are gonna be a bit more expensive. I'd like to put some of that money towards making the ol'girl a little faster

with everyone stepping up to 17" rims from the factory the cost difference is going down. i think wheel and tires were like 200bucks difference which at 1500 bucks that wasnt too bad.

Dude, you go with dubs, and you'll be sorry. I don't know what it is with people getting 20" rims on a 4x4 truck. first of all, I don't know if they are as strong as the 16", and besides, I think they look queer on these trucks. If you go out 4x4ing, you can air down a 16" wheel with a 275 or 285 sized tire, and still have room between rocks and the rims. If you do this on a 20", you have that much less room.

As for the tires, I've got opinions, and personally, I'm not a fan of the BFG's. I've personally got the Toyo mud terrain tires, and they absolutely rock. I had a malfunctioning valve stem core, and I'm not too sure what the pressure was down to, but it had to have been near 20-30psi. This was on the front, and the truck felt a little strange, but still got me to the local tire shop. They have massive sidewalls, and are one of the highest rated capacity tires at 80psi with a 285/75/16 setup. I think that they're rated at 3740pounds per tire at 80psi. after these wear out, I'm going to go with the Toyo Open Country. I need to find one with the same weight capacity ratings, but I think they can handle it. I've never been a big fan of the BFG's.

These are just my opinions. check the weight rating on the tires, and compare them to what you'll be hauling, make sure you've got some left over capacity, and you'll be set.

About 8months ago a friend with a 2nd Gen looked into new tires for his stock rims. The 17" tires were cheaper than 16". He ended up buying 3rd Gen Take offs. They were the same price as buying only tires. Now he's set for the current standard of 17".
