Hello,

The BFG tire, although extremely popular, has some historical balance issues. I would really appreciate feedback from current owners of BFG's concerning tire model, tire size, steel or alloy rims, and the amount of beads or Equal that it took you to get the tire running smoothly.

I'm trying to develop some historical data for other customers when they order beads for these type tires to make sure they get the correct amount. The data will be eventually posted on-site.

Your help is greatly appreciated. You can email me direct at:

Thanks,

i have 315/70/17 bfg ta ko and they couldnt be any better... I have no problems that you said some people have. I love these tires. .

I have recently put on BFG commercial TA's (235-85-16) and the balance is very bad on these things. I need some ideas myself on how to fix them.

My son has BFC 295/75 16 on his 99 Dodge 4x4 with alloy rims. He has not has to balance them since they were put on,they ride smooth. He has a little over 40000 on them. He is getting ready shortly to put new tires on,probably go with the same kind. He had some Goodyear before these and they did not last long 300 or 315 -16.

musta lucked out...

I'm runnin' 33x12. 5x16. 5 BFG/AT's on Eagle 589 rims. I've put almost 30K miles on them without a single complaint. They were awesome in the snow this past winter. Smooth, quite, and long tread life. When it comes time to replace these, I'll be getting the exact same tire. Well, okay... maybe 35's... :D

i've had 7 sets ... no balance problems with any

the 7th set is currently on the wifes 3rd gen, buttery smooth and quiet one rim has 3 inches of lead on one spot, the other three have one inch weights apiece ...

I was in the tire business before I moved onto bigger and better things, and saw no BFG AT issues. I've had them on 4 other trucks before this one, and I have a set on my doublecab VW balanced out with 1. 25 oz wts. I put a set of 315's on the CTD and for dual purpose, I don't think you can do better, unless the load range D is an issue. Me... . I got no issues :D

315/75/16 MT on the stock alloy rims. Have 2 sets for my F-150. About 3 of the 12 tires needed a fair amount of balance weights. Otherwise they are great. I'll replace them with the same tires when its time.

I have BFG 315/70R17's with counteract balancing beads.

I used 6 0z's of the beads and I've never had a shimmer. This was a roundabout estimate of the amount of beads I should use.

I got the estimate from the counteract website chart HERE

They use the filter valve cores and they are mounted on 9" wide rims.

I ran BFG 315/75 16 They sucked for driving and did no last long. They took about 3 oz's a peice to balance. Now on the other hand my pro comp all terrains. (315/75 16) Were way better. They only took about a 1/2 oz and the wore and drove great.

I guess the limited slip and 500 RWP don't help much for wear, but hey you gotta have fun.

Boy, there is a wide variance in similar BFG tires and what various owners have to use for weights. OK, you guys... . you have to help me out a little better, as most of you told me how great your tires were, but never told me how much weight you're using.

"... very few weights" is not a measurement last I checked ;-)

Ishultz - That situation is -highly- unusual, but I would throw in some beads regardless. Reason? Tires don't wear evenly, and if you were lucky enough to start at "0", you won't stay there for the life of the tire. The beads will adjust to what you need, and if you don't need any, they'll just spread themselves out so they don't affect that perfect balance.

Anyhow, my thanks to everybody regardless, you are an enthusiastic group, I must say :)

I run a 255/85/16 MTs on a stock 16x6. 5" chrome wheel. I have to check the weight count but one has a lot on it. I have a free balance/rotate plan with the local NTB that installed these. I have been back for one rebalance and will be going back again within a week. Last time there was about 8 wks ago.

Weight count by tire position:

RF out - 3. 5, in - 2. 0

RR out - 1. 75, in - 0

LR out - . 75, in - 0

LF out - 6. 5, in - 7. 25

BFG Experience

I currenlty have BFG 235 85 16 E's Commercial T/A on my dually now. Got them at Sam's was a smoking deal, mounted balanced and Road Hazard for 651. 00 total out the door.

I do a very large amount of towing, and these tires have held up very well to date. Did not take much weight at all. They are not the best, but they are a very decent tire for the money to date.

I have run BFG A/T's on my rockcrawler for a while, they are good tires but not worth much on the road. Overall the BFG is a pretty good tire.

I really like the look of the BFG A/T's on my dually, but just can't justify the cost diffrences vs. the longevity of the tread wear. They look cool, but too $ for my blood with all the towing I do.

Now for a rockcrawling tire they make a new BFG Krawler, they are are total new ticket, way $$$$, and only have a 5000 road wear life, but they are the ticket in the rocks.

Sorry a little long winded... .

Maybe if your in sales you should already know this stuff. Sorry I posted few weights smart@$$, last time I try to help you, then you turn around and dog everyone for there opinions and telling you how great or bad there tires are. Next time myself and others will try and be more specific to your needs. Later. :{
