Thanks guys, those pictures have me ready to pack up and leave NOW. Can't wait to be amongst the pine trees, streams, clean air and mountains!
Although we have done essentially all of the San Juan 4x4 trails several times in smaller 4WD vehicles since the mid-1970's, we did the Alpine Loop & American Basin (Silverton/Engineer Mountain/Lake City/Cinnamon Pass), and then went over Ophir Pass in our Dodge 3500 with an Outfitter slide-in camper on board last August. As long as you take it easy and have some reasonably decent off-road style tires, you should do just fine. Of course you will have to wait until the counties in the area get the trails cleared of snow, which can sometimes be rather late in the season."aren't kind to the longer wheelbase or clearance of the Ram. "
I was hoping to return to the area and do Engineers and Imogene Passes in our 2nd gen 2500. Will I be able to pick my way through as long as I add some skid plates? Or will I just get high centered?
