Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) need comments or suggestions

I need comments or suggestions on 2 things. 1st, tach in truck fluctuates 50-100 rpm & engine pulses accordingly. Took it to dealer to have it checked & was told "it's normal for an electronically controlled fuel injection sys. to do this. " Anyone have anything for that? 2nd, had truck in nose down attitude while changing/refilling rear diff. oil. Noticed oil (gearlube) coming from inspection slot in bell housing. Wiped it down & haven't seen any since after driving & towing. Was only a small amount (1/2 pint?) Any comments or suggestions on that? Thanks

I asked a similar question a little while ago. The thread was called " Tach Bouncing ". Mine only bounces about 25 to 50 RPM's though, and I don't notice any engine pulsing to coincide with tach.



The answers I got on the thread seemed to indicate that this is normal. Something about the PCM constantly getting new info and sending to the dash gauges and there being a slite delay in the info, causing the tach to bounce slightly .



Sorry I'm not much help, maybe someone with some more technical knowledge than me can explain better.

The engine "bounces" around for the reason that you were given. the electronics are constantly sensing and adjusting the speed. The gear oil seems to be a leak in the input shaft seal. I would fill the trans to level and take a "wait and see" attitude with it unless you are close to the end of your warranty.

Thanks for every ones help. I will watch the oil leak & see if it gets worse. As for the engine pulse, it's not a huge problem. I guess I just get overly concerned sometimes. Again, thanks.
